Do you remove the entire bottom engine cover when you do?Has anyone been sucessfull trying to use the access holes without making a mess?As often as I like to change the oil, I suspect that removing the bottom cover each time will result in stripped bolts or stripped clips that the bolts screw into. The access holes look too small to remove the oil drain plug or filter without making a splash...

30+ years of changing my own oil. Mobil 1 Syn + Nissan filter = I think there is an article that telcoman did....maybe in the FAQsBut, remove the bottom cover!!!! I tried to do it thru the access hole the first time and made a BIG mess!!!!!

I use Rhino ramps to lift the car and a cordless drill (to remove/replace the cover . Have had no problems with stripping bolts....I put my drill on '7' and it's great!!! Yours may be different. Mines a Milwaukee 18V hammer drill

Get yourself a set of sockets. The 14 10mm bolts to remove the fiberboard shroud underneath my G take less than 2 minutes to remove. I use a cordless drill with a socket adapter for my 10mm 3/8" drive socket. The oil drain plug needs a 14mm 1/2 drive socket. Sears has decent socket sets on sale for around $100.00 Buy yourself a 4 ton hydraulic jack and jack stands. My G will be getting its 30th oil change next week.I also do a tire rotation every other oil change.

I've got Rich beat by a few yearsI've been changing my own oil for over 40 years. The best part of changing oil is the wife leaves me alone.

Oh yeah? Well I've done about 5,000 oil changes!!! Well I haven't done a driveway oilchange in over 5 years, but I have a 3/8 drive 14.4 volt impact wrench with 105lbs of breaking torque. As you can see from my how-to video, but I don't remove it because I have the car 6ft off the ground so I just let it hang by the front bolts. But at home, remove those extra ones and remove the whole engine cover so you don't make a mess. Make sure the filter is on hand tight so when you remove it its only a little tighter than when you put it on so you don't need special tools to remove it. I know so many people who put their oil filter on WAY too tight. There is 20 pounds of pressure sucking it in when the engine runs anyway, and neither of my 5000+ subjects have ever failed.

I think I have you beat in the driveway oil changes (mine is gravel) I take it in, but now I will be poor for a couple of years. Has anyone simply hinged the area over the filter?

Have been changing my 07 G35. The first time I had to take off the engine under cover, splash guard, as Infiniti calls it, but at the second change I could reach the oil filter through the square opening on the panel, I just rotated the filter loose pulled it out through the opening, screwed a new one on. Done, didn't even have to take the panel down, saved lots of time.

Just take it all down the first time to see how it goes.

I don't have the trap door on mine, but it is still very easy to take the whole thing off even with a ratchet. As a matter of fact, you will have less chance of cross threading or stripping threads if you just use a ratchet and socket.

2008 G37S - I change my oil and remove the plastic shield every time. It's not that difficult and it provides the access for inspections of the area and lets me CLEAN the shield and the area - which I'm a fanatic about. It helps to lubricate the nut clip threads as they corrode easily.
