just wondering i have someone in mind to do it, but just getting an idea of how much I should expect to pay. Or is it better to just buy one completely assembled off ebay? Also is there a way I can use stock ignition setup, what is needed?

Thanks for any info

Talk to Pumaking/MegasquirtCA he's built several of them for our CA members. He charges $340 for MSII V3.0 he tests it via the stimulator, tests it on his car before sending it off, he might even load a base map to start you off, or if your willing to make the trip to Boca Raton about 3 hours south of Orlando you could have it tuned by Turbogixxer Dynamics.

As for the ebay one you could go that route only problem is they dont set it up for your application. Because Megasquirt is so UNIVERSAL and works with almost all stock ignition systems theirs just no possible way to have them setup for all the systems. So it usually requires some modification on your part.

If you do go a Preassembled route get one from Jerry at http://www.DiyAutotune.com he offers a 1 yr warranty on the ecu.

As for stock ignition, sure you can use it, you can even use the stock COP setup too. But honestly after reading all these threads about the CAS crapping out, some of the sensors go fubared etc etc. Why keep it. Standalone setup wont do you any good if the main components are crappin out. Also to use the stock ignition setup and Megasquirt requires a little know how and you need to know the Nissan system in and out.

it's not that incredibly hard to utilize the stock ignition setup if you go with megasquirt-I and dowload the msns-e or whatever the extra software thingy is. from there it's a pretty simple wiring job. the software config is a little tough but that's not my area :-)

you still have to modify the board to accept the signal the CAS produces.

actually i think you just use the 180 degree signal wire out of the stock CAS and just block off one of the four holes in the inner ring on the optical wheel in the CAS. the msns-e takes care of the rest. if there are any board modifications i think it's minimal. i'm not 100% sure on it because i never finished working it all out because i later realized i had ordered ms-2 and not ms-1 and the "Extra" software for ms-2 doesn't yet support a cam mounted CAS too easily yet. but if someone is just getting into this for the first time i'd suggest using the ford eids stuff just to get the car running and tuned and then worry about changing the ignition stuff later.
