My car smokes a lot while warming up (It looks like theres a small fire or something coming from my exhaust). The smoke is white which would make me think its coolent but its not. The coolent level in both the radiator and overflow have not gone down at all over two weeks. Its not fuel because it doesnt smell at all. Its not oil cause the smoke isnt blue and the oil level hasnt gone down at all either. Its driving me nuts cause I cant figure it out... I do have a gutted cat but it had the same problem before but not this bad. Any ideas/advice would be great, thx.

I saw white somke the other morning. Seems that when I put my car up on jacks to get the DP on, the fact that I have no vent tube on my exhaust valve cover (read open hole:() some oil spilled on the DP :O Oops. When I went to start it, after it warmed up, it burned it all off. Need to find some way to fix that soon...

Well, float6969 asked the question, my opinion is if your car only does it on warm up, your valve seals are toasted, it doesnt take much of oil "few drops" to make it to the combustion chamber and you will see a cloud of smoke, which it will not effect the oil level almost at all, as it only needs few drops.

I would like to get some more options on this. I plan to take my car down to my friends shop and see what they have to say about it though. Thanks

Could be either dealing with a failing headgasket or crappy turbo! Oil seals smoke only momentarily and doesn't smoke that heavily in the morning or after the car has been sitting for a while. I think it's more of a coolant issue when the words "White smoke" is mentioned.

Yea, it smokes a lot (Like a small fire) when its been sitting for a while. For example, if I go for a drive, wait 1-2 hours, then go for another drive it wont smoke at all. Only when I havent drivin the car for quite a few hours and let it warm up. And the smoke isnt blue/black at all, its straight white. There is also a little bit of water that comes out of the exhaust when it smokes like this.

Quote »There is also a little bit of water that comes out of the exhaust when it smokes like this.[/quote] Did your old motor blow a headgasket really bad? If so, it does take a while to burn off old coolant in the exhaust. And did you change the exhaust from your old set-up? If not, then your headgasket is failing "Point Blank". There's only so many things that can cause this and they have been cased in this thread. You need to do some testing and figure which one of the issues that myself, pulsar_gtr and float have covered and see which one(s) pertain to your situation. Otherwise, you're beating a dead horse and this thread will linger into nowhere for you.

Mine has started doing this now. Weird thing is, if I start the car and let it warm up, it takes a few minutes to smoke, then if I rev it a little, the smoke stops. It only seems to smoke when I leave it sit overnght. I left it set all day while I was at work (10 hours) went out to go home that night and no smoke. Plus, this never happened till I got my downpipe.

My old motor didnt have a blown head gasket and the only thing left from the exhaust system on the KA is a gutted cat.

I have a feeling its going to be either the head gasket or the turbo.

Thanks guys

Keep in mind the fact that your turbos are not brand new! Once the cartridge shatters, it will let some oil and water into the back housing, which will in turn cause these smoking conditions. If you want the smoke to stop, disconnect and block-off your water lines to your turbocharger.

What about my situation? How it stops after I give it a quick rev. Mine is blueish so it must be oil. O and mine came with a nice and unabused (no bent fins or chips on the compressor impeller) SR T25.

And just because it's an SR unit, doesn't mean that it's previous owner didn't give it hell.

Sweet. Gives me a reason to justify a new T28!!! WOOT!

First I blow my KA to get a CA now I blow a T2 small for a T28BB.

Now only if my damn loan refund check would get here....
