Car: driving like a retard

Post

i have a 97 240sx with a ka24de-t the car idles fine and doesnt knock or ping at all, but after i start the car about 30 sec later white smoke starts to come out the tailpipe, it doesnt smell like oil it smells more like gas, theres no oil in my coolent or any pining or internal engine noise and the car seems to be perfectly fine, im scared to drive it i dont want to do any damage, but if i dont know whats broke i cant fix it what could this be?

I have a 92 240SX with a similar problem. And I've been searching thru the threads about possible causes. The smoke appears when I'm doing about 45mph and up (I feel like SpyHunter). I sense a loss of power, like the car's being choked. At lower speeds, it seems ok. Coolant seems fine, doesn't seem to have any leaks, radiator is full. Car idles a little on the low side but is ok.From past posts and other boards about white smoke, it seems like the head gasket but I want to be sure. Especially since it takes me going into 3rd and 4th gear for this to happen. There isn't a distinct smell to the smoke. Not oil, and not coolant. And if it were the head gasket, wouldn't it be smoking all the time?

this all depends on how thick the smoke is. Is the smoke like a thick fluffy white cloud you cant even see blue sky through or is it kinda thin like the clouds much higher up in the atmosphere? the thicker would be coolant the thinner would be a rich condition with the fuel system. Either coolant temp sensor or airflow meter.

well it not a good idea to drive it in either case since both cases will damage the cat, if it were coolant that will take out your O2 as well. if its the rich condition and you wanna drive it to the shop your ok but I wouldnt use it to drive around for pleasure.
