For some reason my new rogue usually has white smoke coming out of the tailpipe while other cars do not. Just wondering if its normal or not. Car has about 3000 miles and no 1st oil change yet. thanks.

Does it happen while the car didn't warm up yet? If so, then this is normal and this is just a steam. You should see how old bmw smoking on the road. And I mean not too old like 5-7 years old. Most likely any car will smoke in a cold weather.

It all depends on the time at which you observe the "smoke". Since you are in NY and it is cold, you will tend to see condensation coming from your exhaust pipe. This is normal and is nothing more than your exhaust system, i.e., the muffler and converter. However, if you drive for a considerable time and it still emits this, then you have a problem mechanically.

If my old hot rod days serve me, a "white" smoke is more valve related and a bluish smoke is more piston ring related. I would venture to say that, since this isn't a GM or Chrysler, it is moisture related and perfectly fine.

Cheers!

Does it smell something out of the ordinary when you have the white smoke? Is it when accelerating only?

I believe some cloudy white smoke under acceleration comes when you have some cooling liquid going in the engine through the head gasket. Check your liquids to see if you have some missing.

Like the other, I believe it is some water from the cold weather.

I'd recommend not getting carried away and worried that you've got engine problems, when in fact your engine is most likely just fine.

Like the others have stated, it's probably not smoke but condensation from the hot, moist exhaust gases hitting the cold air. If it's cold outside you'll always see this, just like seeing your breath in cold air.

If you see white smoke in warm weather, then you might want to look a little deeper, keep a close eye on fluids, perhaps mention it to your service shop.

But most likely you're fine, winter is just a real b*** sometimes!!

Condensation (water vapor) from the exhaust is very common in the winter months. On the coldest winter days, it will still be visible even when the engine is fully warmed up.

I would continue to monitor it. If it is still present on warm days (>50F) with the engine fully warmed up, then consider taking it to the dealer.
