most likely your head gasket is done and its leakin coolant into the pistons because white smoke is burnt coolant, you wont notice much power drop(if any) but yeah it'll still be there. it happens to my eclipse(beater)....white(and now blueish which is oil) comes out of the exhaust when the car is idling.

you prob better off gettin a used engine. you might have a warped head or block which caused the thing to blow again. so the machine work wouldn't be worth the value of the engine unless its really low miles.

Bad rings would equal black or darker smoke because you would be burning oil. White smoke is definately burning coolant, keep track of your coolant level and see how it is doing.

I was always under the impression, that black smoke was an indication of a rich condition(injectors, plugs, sensors). Blue or white smoke, or a mix there of could be coolant or oil burning , depending what you're actually seeing (rings, seals, something leaking).
