white smoke/ steam from center console

i noticed this alot today, about 30 miles down the freeway, i only had passed a few cars and i only rev to 5500 now, this is when i noticed white smoke or steam coming from what looked like my shifter/ center console/ radio dim area... i could only see it in the corner of my eye, not when i looked directly toward me glove box, where the stream would pass by... it would only appear for about 2 seconds at most, then stop, and then again a short time later... the total trip was about 70 miles, and this continued almost the whole way after that, my speeds when i noticed this was about 70+... the trans did not seem to be over heating, nor my engine, it all acted normal except this, sorry for a long post, i was just wondering if anyone knew what this was.. any help is appreciated... thanks

could this be the transmission fluid is old/overheating and the smoke or whatever is coming up through the shift boot....?

also..... like a few of you... i take my ash tray out to use as a cup holder and i spilled some of my drink down there a few weeks ago... could it be this that is evaporating now and causing the steam?

1:no2:possibly but it should not be that hot

possibly your catalytic converter is overheating. that usually results in a hot spot under the drivers feet and bum. possible that the transmission has a failed bearing or driveshaft center bearing. if they were bad enough to get hot they would prob make noise though.

Possibly condensation from the evaporator for your a/c. Are you using your a/c or defrosters when you notice this? If you have a high volume of condensation in there it could be a mist coming from the dash vents your seeing.

i don't think this is it but i used to have smoke come out of instrument cluster area on hot days. this happened for years. finally took it apart and found that the solder had detached on one joint and it was just touching.

heater core idea makes sense to me. not sure how it works.
