white smoke is coming out from under hood for my Rogue. It happend this moring after 10 mins drive to super market. I can't see where the smoke is coming out but I don't know what that part is called. The service department is closed today and I have to wait till Wednesday morning to bring it in.

Guess what? that's not it! after driving back from the Nissan dealership I found a freaking nail in my tire. the air start to leak out as I tried to pull it out so I have to plug it back in. can you believe this!!!!? the day before christmas!

If anyone would have some idea what could caused the smoke, please share with me.

The smoke is white and smell like something was burning. It left marks (kinda like a layer of brown dust) on the surface where the smoke is coming out.

PS. this should not discourge for someone who is interested in the rogue (just yet) as I still don't know what the problem is. the rogue is a fun car to drive. I will update when I get my car back after it's serviced.

It sounds like something to do with your radiator fluid. Does it have a sweet smell to it? I hope its not your head gasket....check for oil in the radiator fluid. Good luck

White smoke is generaly steam from a coolant leak. It could be as insignificant and easy to fix as a loose hose clamp, a punctured hose or as severe as a leaking head gasket. If were my rogue I would check the simple things a loose clamp tighten. DO NOT let you engine run hot! Park it if you have any doubts. Heres hoping its a minor problem.

I'm really hoping it's nothing major. I didn't mention when I took the car to the dealer, a guy took a look and said it's normal as it happends all the time. I looked at him and said "normal? smoke coming out of a 2 months old car is normal?" he also added you can drive the car, it's no problem... I was thinking WTF are you talking about... anyway... that dealer is the closest one to my house or else I would rather take the car else where.

I don't have the picture but I will try to take one tomorrow. As for the smell, I don't think it smell like sweet... it's more like something was burning.

I will have to wait until Wednesday now to find what has happpend. I couldn't see signs of leakage as most of the parts were covered or behind something.

I will keep everyone posted on Thursday... Merry Christmas!!!

from you and the guy above, it sounds like the head gasket problem is a big job. If that is the case, is all this repairing under the warrenty? Is it possible for someone from the dearler to BS me and not to get it done right?

I'm just concerned my rogue is not going to get fully repaired as it is a very new model and don't know how many techs have already their hands on one of them to know what the real problems are...

any advice before I bring it in tomorrow??? Thank you.

I wouldn't jump to conclusions. It may not be a head gasket. If it is, it will be covered under the warrantee. Ticmxman is right, might be a loose hose or clamp. Open the radiator and see if the fluid level is down. It also may be a small oil leak. Check the engine oil level as well. Whatever it is should be covered by Nissan. Good luck and Merry Christmas........

I know its upsetting but I wouldn't get too stressed until you have it checked out. It's premature to think that it is a major problem for now. You also stated that there was no sweet odor, this leads me to think it may not be a coolant leak. Check you coolant levels in the radiator and coolant tank, check you oil via the dip stick for water in the oil. If it is related to your heating system you might try differnt settings on your climate controls (tempature setting, vent mode) to see if that stops the smoke. Where in the engine compartment is the smoke coming from? Is it a lot of smoke or a little? Rogue's come with a 3yr 36000 mile bumper to bumper warranty and 5yr 60000 mile powertrain warranty. So short of a few exemptions (wrecks, modifications, abuse) you will be covered. While the Rogue is a new model a lot of the components are the same as other Nissans so the dealership should be somewhat familiar with any issues and repair procedures. To prevent the dealer BSing you I would do web research, learn as much as you can and be polite but firm with what you expect from the dealer. Maybe it is something minor. Good luck.

Hey Albert. What's the dealer saying about your Rogue's problem?

Hey, so I got the car back on Wednesday. They said they have checked all the hoses and show no sign of leakage. they drove the car and no smoke was coming out. They said it is possible a plastic bag got suck in from the bottom of the car and the smoke was coming from plastic burning.

What can I say?? I know I saw the smoke and smell the burn. (a guy at the dealer also acknowledged smelling it that day I saw the smoke). If you can't see the problem, how would you know what to fix...

I drove it yesterday and today and hasn't seen any smoke yet so I hope it was just some plastic like they said and my rogue is safe to be on the road again.

if there's a lot of white smoke come out, i do agree with (rrs26ja), hoses loose, and dont let the engine over heat. watch out the temp.

Thats good news! That happened to me once. There was no smoke but that burnt plastic smell stuck around for a week or two before it left. I would still watch the coolant level for a while just to be sure.
