My 95 Q45t with 55K miles on it had a problem with a rough idle a few weeks ago. While the car is idling (in gear and in park) the engine would kind of sputter and shake...like it was trying to breath. Sometimes it would even stall. If you have it some gas, it revved smoothly but after it got back to idle, the car would stall.

Sooooo, I made an appt with the Infiniti dealer and the next available appt they had was in 2 weeks. I waited and waited. When I started the Q up to take it to the dealer, the problem was gone.

I explained what happened to the service rep and he told me that if the problem is not there anymore, don't worry about it. He told me that Mobil and Exxon are "white" or clear gasolines which add a LOT of detergent in it. The injectors in the Q don't run well with all these detergents. He recommended that I use pink gas which is pretty much everything else except Mobil and Exxon. I had them run a diagnostic test and the car didn't show any codes. The car runs fine now. I am now going to try to stay away from Mobil and Exxon and see how things turn out.

Has anyone ever heard of this? Or has anyone else experienced a similar problem?

Sounds like the oil fairy has a cousin called the gasoline fairy.

MY I30 only gets Exxon/Mobil 93 Octane and I've never had a problem. Maybe you got a bad batch of gas. Do you always fill up at the same gas station?

I'd say you have a loose electrical connection (MAF, CAS, etc) that was causing your problems. If your problem at idle was more of a "bouncing" feel, I'd point to an injector. In any case, the gas thing is BS - I'd check your electrical connections on the sensors at idle and see if the problem comes back. Any change in idle speed indicates a problem. You'll see it again eventually, but you'll be better off finding it at home than on the road somewhere.

I'd call the dealership manager and explain to him VERY politely that his service advisor is, in fact, completely and utterly FULL OF s***. :D

Cheap attempt:Pour in a $3 can of Bellman's B12 Chemtool. That fixed all my rough idle problems in one shot.

Expensive:Have the injectors diagnosed.

Cheapest:Probably just bad gas, and the problem is gone for good.
