Yea, i didnt know what this meant until about 4 months ago... and im only 35.

Anyway, according to the urban dictionary, it is a gangsta/slang term for a nice car. It is believed the term was coined by some "hard core" rapper who referred to his car as a whip, evidently in a phase claiming he was "ghost ridding the whip". This, i guess is the practice of a homie to turn up his stereo loud and put the car in gear and exit the vehicle. At this point the car would slowly roll (just do to idle) down the street whilst he and his "african americans" ( Also using a slang term for this) and women ("shorties" as he referred to them) would "dance" around the vehicle while it moves.

This practice is dangerous and illegal in all states. Since the vehicle isn't technically being driven, it is being cited as "reckless endangerment". If someone is killed by it, it is considered "manslaughter". Manslaughter = accidental killing of someone due to negligence or recklessness.

I could be totally wrong, but I think whip was first brought mainstream in the movie New Jersey Drive. A dude called Midget would say he was "whipping" cars meaning stealing them and driving off like a bat out of hell (whipping around turns is another phrase).
