whining? noise when turning steering wheel?

so it seems like it is a whine, and it only happens when the car is sitting still, it goes away when you are moving.

i might be answering my own question here but i need reassuring, can it be a bad steering pump? i also have a squeaking noise, can it also be the steering pump pulley maybe?

Make sure your power steering isn't low first. If it's low it will cause a whine. And if it's low, you have a leak somewhere. more than likely the return hose, they get old and brittle.

A squeaking noise could be a loose belt as well. Is the noise constant or just when your turning?
