Hi all, hope to get some clues here...

So, I have a Nissan President from 2001, which is "basically" like the Q45 until '97.

I can find parts for it in the US, as long as I pick the Q45 with the G50 base.

So, recently, I noticed a kind of whining noise from the left rear side, ie. from the left rear wheel, when I do not accelerate, so basically, I hear it a lot.

It is sometimes louder, when I just drive off and sometimes, it is not very loud and the radio is louder. I was thinking of the rear axis.

And I was thinking of changing parts. So, first comes to mind is part 43210, whic is the rear inner bearting:

43280AA300 01 09.1999 - ... VH45D right side and I would also do the left side:

43281AA300 01 09.1999 - ... VH45D left

But, I am not very technical and I may search in the complete wrong direction or, if it is the rear axis, I would need other or more parts to replace.

Or even, if it is not the rear axis, may be it is the rear differentail and I would need completely other parts....

Anyway what do you guys think? The car is from 2001 and it has done around 80,000 miles (136.000 km)

There are two ways to go about fixing that noise: one is to start throwing parts at it hoping that you get lucky, the second is to diagnose the problem and only replace the part that's causing the noise.

I would support the rear of the vehicle, put it in drive, and try to locate the source of the noise as a first step.

Thanks Ryantzer!

I would also go for the second option, I had the car on a bridge, with engine and wheels running but then it is not noticeable anymore. I was told the left rear alloy was not straight and that could be a cause but I can't imagine that causing the whining noise.

I will try again before throwing parts at it, as that also requires to fit them in a proper way....

I understood from a Japanese friend that the bearings on the President and the Q45 are known to be weak. Or maybe that the car is rather heavy for the bearings used. Adter all, they are the same as in the much lighter 300ZX.

A bent wheel is capable of causing wheel bearings to wear out prematurely, so that would be something you’ll want to replace regardless of whether or not the bearings are the problem.

In my experience a noise that is dependent on load is usually differential related, and a wheel bearing noise usually is consistent.

If it's actually the wheel causing the noise, moving it to a different location should move the noise. If the wheel caused bearing failure, moving it won't tell you much.
