My car is making a loud whining noise when its cold. It seems to quiet down some after it warms up but still is louder than normal. Sounds like it might be coming from the idler pulley. Easy to replace? How much? I have a warranty with $100 deduct. Should I just let them deal with it?

Are you certain it's not just belt tension?

I'd tighten up the belts a few turns and see if that helps - Beyond that, if it is an idler pulley, it's an easy swap, but might be worth $100 just to get it done.

Thanks, I'll try tightening up the belt and see if that fixes it. If not I might just take it in. Its hard to say exactly which pulley is making the noise. It seems like the idler pulley, but if I'm wrong I just bought a part I don't need. If the dealers wrong, it still only costs me a $100.

Good thinking.

BTW, I love the Y33 Touring model - what color is yours?

Thanks, its pearl white, tinted windows with tan leather. Unfortunately, with the winter we're having this year in Denver, its left me stranded a few times. Snows been so deep, I was getting high-sided. Also, with one new baby and as of today another on the way, I'm running shy on room in the back seat. I didn't realize until I put a baby seat in the back how much space they take. Now I'm going to have 2. I might be putting the car up for sale next month and looking at a Landcruiser or something of that size. Too bad, I love the ride of the Y33. First car I've owned in over 12 years. I swore I'd never own a car again until I drove this one. My parents live in Chandler so I've been searching for SUV's in Denver and Chandler. If I have to I'll fly down there and drive something back up.
