I would guess either a leak before the turbo intake...or worn turbine shaft bushings running the shaft unbalanced....wobbling the compressor blade all over the place.

if it was the bushings, wouldn't it always be there even if it was in Neutral? its WAY louder in gear than in neutral.

maybe idler pulley for the timing belt? i still need to check the alternator and water pump for free-spinning. there is no loss of power at all. and a little shaft play, but no more than the 1st day i got the motorset.

Not necessarily. Once you load up the turbo under boost it may be the issue.

I have the eact same problem, sounds like its coming from the front of the motor. No power steering either, just rebuilt turbo, belts have proper tension and all accesorys spin freely but mine happens on idle in nuetral mostly. Cant figure it out.

i did some google-searching, and came up with a blown exhaust manifold to turbo gasket? its weird because it just came out of nowhere and the intensity isnt always the same.

i did have it in neutral and revved it to redline and it is somewhat there in the upper RPMs. i've noticed it to come and go kind off. i think it could be the manifold-turbo gasket, as i used the one that came with my manifold.. would that going out usually cause a whine/scream?
