I just purchased a used 2007 M35X that is making a "whining" noise when the car gets about 25-30mph or above. I initially thought it wasn't shifting because it sounded like the engine was revving high, but the revs are right in line, rarely getting above 3K. The best description I can give of the noise is like a high-revving engine.

The car has 75K miles on it and is in mint condition otherwise. The previous one owner had all of the maintenance done at an Infiniti dealership that I am going to contact tomorrow. But has anyone encountered a similar situation? I am unable to return it to the dealer who sold it because it was purchased out of state sight unseen.

Thanks,
Vince

I believe I have the same issue as you. It is not the wheel bearings but something inside the engine. I find that if you turn the AC off, the whining sound goes away somewhat but it is still present.

Might be the belts but idk

I tried driving it with the windows open but did not hear a difference so I think you are right about the wheel bearings. But mine still occurs when the AC is off. It sounds to me like it is coming from the right side of the engine but I am not sure.

Thanks,
Vince

same here... I did wheel bearings and belts in the last 6 months... so im pretty sure.that's not the problem... sounds like its coming from around the alternator area... hope someone figures this out... Ijust turn the music up when im driving now...

Water pumps, A/C compressors, tensioner pulleys, and idler pulleys also have bearings. I'd recommend using your preferred method to listen to all of them individually to make sure it's not them. Better than waiting unil belts start tearing up because one of them has seized.

I am going to take it into the shop this week and have them check it out. I'll report back on what I find.

Thanks,

I complained about loud whining noise and they narrowed it down to two possible problems common in my M45! Tensioner pulley/belts included and/or AC compressor... So, I got a new compressor, new belts instead since that was the more expensive job being that I was still under warranty... :dblthumb: plus my problem was more consistent while AC was on!!

I would say check tensioner pulley and belts!!

It's going in tomorrow for a checkup but I am going to take a quick look tonight to see what I can find. Tensioner pulley and belts are on the list.

Thanks,
Vince

Yep it was the wheel bearings. I would not have thought that to be the case because I did not hear a difference with the windows down, and the last wheel bearing problem I had caused a "bumping." But the good news is that the car dealer who sold it to me is going to pay the $550 to get it fixed.

Thanks for all of the help. Can't wait to drive the car more once it is fixed.
