Mine sounds and smells like a normal G35. Didn't you put on some mods, like the Pop Charger or something. You sure its coming from the transmission? I ask because the Pop Charger makes a whistling noise in the area of RPMs that you're shifting at.

Smockers83:

I thought of that as well. What I hear in the Popcharger is more like a hissing sound. What surprises me about the new phenomenon is that the car feels a little more willing to move faster, inspite of the light whistling and whinning noise.

On Sunday morning, at about 10.15 am, to be exact, I had a hard time believing I was driving the same car I drove the night before. I could swear on my life that my car was pushing close to 320hp. I actually had to stop at a gas station for a while to determine what was going on. The car was hyper fast and hyper agile. Perhaps, the temperature, pressure, humidity had an effect--I don't know yet. But I have never had the car move that fast with that much torque since I moded the car. All this was with the temporary whinning/whistling sound.

This is the second sound that seem like it is going to stay on the car. The other whistling/ringing sound is one that seems to come from the drive belt region. Even when i was given a new replacement engine, the sound continued. So, i have learned to live with that sound. The hissing sound of the intake muffles it a little bit. And now, the Stillen exhaust sound doe smuffle the whining/whistling sound form the transmission.

If you want to understand the sound I am talking about, think about the whining/whistling transmission sound you here in GT race cars during a GT race series. It is more like a lighter smoother version of that sound, with more whistling than whining. Perhaps, my puishing the car frequently, has moved my transmission to the actual sound levels intended for the car. The shift is so smooth now that I really don't think a short-shifter is required any more.

Is your popcharger still on correctly? Did it move or is there any tear in the rubber?

I took a look at the Pop Charger. I don't see anything off. Maybe something is loose somehwere. I was in the service bay with the Infiniti mechanic as he raised my car on the hydraulic lift, and checked the transmission oil for its level and quality, while checking for any loose parts. I will ask that he check the intake parts to make sure nothing is loose, when I go to the dealership next time.

The intake can change as it gets dirtier too. But you should hear that same noise through all gears as long as the engine is pulling the same velocity of air... ooops. Scratch that last comment or we'll be here for another 3 pages.

Perhaps this will stop the noise?

I don't mean intake/engine/exhaust noise, I mean transmission/clutch/differential noise.

I asked my dealership friend yesterday if it was normal for my G to sound like a truck, he said, well yeah.
I wonder that too sometimes...aftermarket clutches are usually worse. As heavy as the G is, you'd think they would have some sound deadening material to quiet the transmission.

Well said!

Actually, the BG additive they added to the diff, and possibly the transmission, was in a tube like that. The car drives great. The noise maybe coming from the a slightly shifted pop charger, or from in-between the spacer and the upper plenum, or from the contact between the revised engine and the original transmission based on a different brand of oil. The noise isn't loud or noticeable for the most part. It is going to take getting used to. The revised engine when mated with the existing transmission, made the same whining/whistling noise even last year, in first gear only, and in RPMs lower than 2K, with the . Perhaps, the new engine is still working its way to seemless perfection with the transmission.

I'm glad, it's not only mine. I was worried for a while that I bought an abused G.

Seriously, I'd locate the source to be sure. don't simply speculate the possibilities and assume the best case scenario, and ignor the worst case scenarios. The dealer may be telling you it'll be covered, but bear in mind that if it came down to it, the manufacturer actually has the ultimate say. Last I checked, Nissan/Infiniti will deny an auto transmission failure for using the wrong fluid. I don'tr see why it wouldn't apply to the manuals either....

Changed my fluids to the manual specified HQ Nissan Manual Transmission Fluid--GL4. My car still whines/whistles. Mechanic confirmed what i had earlier thought about the transmission: it now sounds more like a lighter version of the transmission sound in a GT car during an actual race. I am beginning to enjoy the new sound already. Can someone call me Michael Schumacher?

We'd rather not inflate your ego and having your walk around with a head the size of Jack (from Crap in the Box).

Please pop my swelling head if it gets too large. I am so in love with my G-35 Coupe. Weirdest but lovely car! Can't do any wrong! Now it needs new shoes (tires) and new toes (brakes).

Perhaps you may be on to something. With the weather here close to 60 degrees today, my G seemed to run better than in the past few days. Temperature, humidity, altitude all have an effect. Perhaps the G should come with a built in weather station?

I'm patiently waiting for, and anxiously anticipating, a write-up on the proper way(s) to a G. Nothing weird, just straight missionary stuff please.

You are right! We do need an in built dash weather station to drive our Gs. No one can ever fully know the breadth of issues the g can generate---it remains an unusual car in every way I can imagine. Perhaps that weirdness creates an unsaid thrill about the car. I have concluded that driving my G gently is a total waste of time and resources. The car begs to be punished. My transmission can whistle all it wants. I am going to continue flogginh it till I can flog it no more.

I have constantly sought ways to answer that question. I think the G likes to get done in various styles. Haven't figured out which style it likes best.

You gotta get it a leather bra, and call it bad names, and make it write bad checks.

I don't know what's worse, that or trying to figure out animals. I think some of us need some psychological help...NOW. I think rn has been hittin the bong, I know I don't think of that stuff when I'm drunk...when I'm drunk I think about other women. When you're high is when you start thinking of crazy stuff like that.

That's a $10K mod. And that's a "used" price.

I think you missed the point Smocky. It was directed at a few of you who keep turning your Gs upside down looking for the hair, if you know what I mean.
