Whining from front end

Hey all, I've noticed a whining noise from my front end. It may be related to me changing the gear oil in the front diff, the noise increases with rpms. so I'm wondering what you guys use for gear oil in the front and if you have any tips on what may be going on?

If the noise is from the diff it should be changing with road speed and not RPM. Changing with RPM indicates it's from the engine or transmission.
