I have been hear a strange whiney noise only at start up over the last 3 weeks. The noise only lasts 25 seconds and stops completely after the car is warmed up. I though it was due to power steering fluid being low, but I filled it up and also filled up cooling fan liquid reservoir. The power steering pump waqs recently replaced by Infinity. Is is possible that waterpump is going bad .. Or can it be a belt tenionier

Belts are probably fine. The sound you describe is exactly what a idler pulley sounds like when the bearings are going bad.

It probably is your idler pulley, but here's how you can be sure:

First, identify the idler pulley. It might be shown in the belt routing diagram in the engine compartment.

Start the car cold and while it's whining, spray the bearing area of the pulley with silicone spray. Avoid spray oils as they will make belts slip. If it momentarily quiets down, that's it. If not, try a spritz on other rotating parts.

Got a link to the ebay listing? $190 for an idler is rough.

Hey everyone would this work instead of paying for a new one? We already have two Idler Pulleys, why not get rid of one. Has anyone done this on here?

I'm just throwing this out there although you did mention the dealer already said they found the problem... Pay close attention to the winding noise and place your ear on it!!! I'm thinking your headlight may be the cause!! My passenger side headlight did that winding noise from time to time until one day it wouldn't go off... if you touch around the headlight unit where the light bulb plugs in and the afs motor is you can actually feel some vibration where the motor tends to go out and is constantly trying to move the adaptive headlight...

Just a thought so you can look into that since that's much more expensive to replace!! $1250 each headlight!!! :gotme

The only whine that I want to hear is a supercharger.
