I know very little about the 240SX, beyond the fact that I've recently discovered I like its style. It's on the shortlist for next car I buy, and I have to ask - does the year matter? I know they were redesigned in '97, but are there any changes in it before then as dramatic as, say, the FC/FD models of the RX-7? I was unable to find a site that lists any pros/cons or problems by year of production. Can anyone point me toward this, or maybe help me out?

89-90: Had SOHC 2.4 liter engine (KA24E)91-93: Had DOHC 2.4 liter engine (KA24DE) which was used in all production years of the 240 after 90.94: I believe only convertibles were sold that year 89-94: are known as the S13 chassis

All years after that are known as the S14 chassiss14's had slightly different front bumper and headlights in 97 and 98.

There is alot more info on this site so feel free to do a search to get some more concise knowledge.

Also 89-90 have a front bumper known as the "Pignose" bumper. Pignose bumpers with the OEM Lip are the SH!YTE!! Had to throw that in there.

basically as long as it runs good they're all good models.

the only thing would be whats mentioned above if you want the sohc thats 89-90 and if you want a dohc thats 91-98. there aren't any defective models or anything like that.

yeh but thats only due to your total lack of taste...

basicly there isnt much to be said about the different years, other then body style changes and the additional cam added in 91.

also worth noting is Hicas wich came on some hatchbacks...

Thanks for all the information. I'm not mechanically inclined (yet), and so the abbreviations for the body types and engines are for me somewhat confusing. I'll look through what I can find, see if I can't narrow it down to one or two good years.

pretty much all the years are as good as each other, just that the newer ones have a different body style. SOHC and DOHC mean single overhead cam/dul ovehead cam respectively...IF you dont know what a camshaft is Howstuffworks.com could proabably tell you. The extra cam added about 10 hp when it was brand new, but after 14 years the difference in maintnence could make some DE's as bad as E's and some E's as fresh as DE's....the engien codes go something like thisKA meaning its a KA series engine24 meaning its a 2.4LD meaning dual overhead camE meaning electronic fuel injection

so a KA24E would be a 2.4L KA with electronic fuel injection(one cam not 2)SR20DET would be an 2.0L SR dual cam fuel injected turbo (the T is for turbo)SR20VET would be the same only with VVT (kinda like V-tech for nissan)
