1999/2000? Maxima

Post

Hi All !

I am trying to get this figured out and need some help from the Maxima experts. :chuckle:

I have a Maxima that was made in 5/99 but the registration and the underhood sticker both say 2000.
Isn't it usually DOM 7/xx for the new model ?
...or did the switch from 4th gen to 5th gen change that?
Are the engines/layout/harnesses different from 99 to 2K?

The thermostat doesn't match anything they can find at the parts store, usually it has the thermostat/integral housing and 3 bolts. Mine has a separate thermo and a gasket around it and 2 bolts (I'm pretty sure, it's not here now to look at).

I'm also trying to ohm the injectors and the blue plug on the passenger side of the manifold has 8 pins and I get NOTHING out of any of them no matter which I test.
1&2, 1&5, and 1&6 right?

I have the dreaded P1320 and another emission test coming up by the end of the month. This is really stressing me out since I've got too much crap to do and can't waste anymore time trying to diagnose this until I know what year it is.

Thanks.

I want my old account back too... :tisk:

Answering a question with a question eh?

Looks like a 2000 or 5th but if you'd read the rest of my post and answer any of those first...

I have the VIN handy if it helps anyone.

It's a 5th Gen made in 99. Please see attached link, P1320 diagnostic starts on page EC-369:

Below is a link to IoS (Infiniti Parts of Scottsdale) a.k.a. infinitiparts
USA.com for the thermostat. At 25% off MSRP, very hard to beat price for OEM parts.

It looks as if your old account is still here, so you should only have to reset your password. If you need me to do something further then let me know and i'll get it going again for you.

That's likely not a site issue, it's probably something to do with your web browser. If I take too long in writing a reply, then sometimes the browser times out and losing what I typed in a post. Usually before I hit submit on a long post, I copy everything I typed, just to be safe.

Newer may not be better to everyone, but changes have to be made to keep up with technology and make the site better as a whole ;)

Better than the alternative since ZeroForum went belly-up.

Turns out this thing has a VQ30DEK with the MEVI intake.

It has the California emission ECU programming which needs to be reflashed by the stealer.

There are 4 different models for that year A B C D.

What a PITA car so far. :rotflmao

I have the same engine in my I30 and love it. I don't have the California emissions crap, but everything else is the same. So far the worst thing i've had to deal with has been a pre-cat replacement and i've put 50k miles on it since i've had it.

They can be quite a PITA still though, but i've dealt with much worse vehicles in the past.

I/we decided to dump it.

Had the ECM reflashed for $130 and it still has the P04020 code and the dreaded never ending 1320.

Wis.gov wants you to spend $800 to get a waiver.

Time to dump it -I don't need the aggravation since I just cheated death again last year.

Is it worth much as parts? :naughty:
