Got rid of my daughters really reliable, bore to drive, not substantial enough for the highway Corolla.

Just saw and loved an 07 M45 120k miles for 10k or an 2011 G37 Journey 75k miles for 15k. Both look and drive like new cars. Some minor hairline cracks in dash of M45.

Which to buy? Advice please?

Welcome to the forum!

I'd go with the G37.

Smaller engine, so in theory should net more MPG's, also less mileage so in theory should stay reliable longer. Plus, it's not much bigger than the Corolla so she'll feel more capable of it. The M is a larger sedan as you know...

If it was my daughter, honestly, I would want her in the bigger car- just in case of accident. She probably has all the time in the world to get a sportier car down the road. I love my M45, even if MPGs arent that great. I dont think G37s MPG are really that substantially better anyway.

Put her in the tank and have the relief that she is in a very large, very solid sedan.

G37, in the long run it will be a lot more reliable and of course aftermarket support is a lot more substantial, and quite honestly it just performs better than the M45.

Although its been a few months I thought it would be discourteous not to update those who gave good advice on what we bought and how it turned out.

I went with Big_Dish's advice and bought my daughter the tank. Gray M45 black & white interior, Vertini wheels. Perfect condition. Car runs great, comfortable ride, much better MPG than I expected. Has a nice growl on start up.

Perks - previous owner wired it so music plays from phone. Movies also play while driving. The movie sound is flat out unbelievable. I thought the seat speakers did nothing until we played a movie. Wow.

Athough my daughter is way too cool to drive fast, there is a perk just for "rode-trip mom" - this car goes from 80 to 100 in the blink of an eye. Drives better at 100 too. Nice purr to it.

Congratulations ! Although the G had less miles, it also had less of everything else as well. Less comfort, less supportive non-ventilated seats, less tech, less room, and less style. The only issues I recall reading in here is the oil consumption, and that doesn't happen to everyone. Make sure the car has it's maintenance up to date and stays that way and you should get another 100k out of it easily. You're right about the surround sound. I think it's absolutely brilliant too. I play live concerts on long trips. One of my favs is a really old DVD called Secret World by Peter Gabriel.

Out of curiosity, how old is your daughter? Also, is it an x model or RWD?
Are the cracks in the dash getting any worse?

Not awd. Not necessary in FL and lowers mpg anyway. It does have all the upgrade pkgs though.

Dash cracks not any worse, but its garaged (when its home). There is a boat builder here who will re do the dash. Thinking about it.

Wow. You must really have faith in your daughter's sensible driving skill. Either car is very potent for a 16 year old.
