well since this is the drifting forum I will say alot use welded diffs and many use lsd type diffs, even a few on open diffs slide. its not about the diff, I can do basicaly the same shiz with my welded one as I could with the open, its just more smoke and way more predictable with the weld. Honestly even if the option was there I have heard lsd's tend to need tons of care and not be very reliable(as far as the same reaction everytime), but I havent drove any 240's with an lsd, just open and welded. Even with the lil noise and "slower" steering at slow speeds I heart mine.so yeah weld

also I think this all has been done/covered...

a real diff will ALWAYS be better than a welded on

it just makes a difference if you can afford a $800+ differential.

if you can get ahold of the cash, an ats deftforce or a nismo gtpro (the adjustable one that goes for $1,600) are pure s@x. but a deftforce is not for those who mind noise, its enough to turn heads in the parking lot from a distance.

i personaly run an ats deftforce(2-way). I love it it locks quick and hard everytime w/o question. and It feels somone kicks you in the seat when i locks.

only downside is the noise as previously mentioned but who realy cares about noise when performance it their goal. besides it sounds freakin' awsome.

Best advice i can give is go to local events and meets and drive other people's cars w/ different setups and see what you like.

I personaly prefer a 2way but the deftforce that Ueno is/was using on his soarer is a 1.5way while other d1 drivers use 2ways or even in some cases they may even use a spool(corrorrrra perhaps?). so its all about personal preference.

if you can do the same "shiz" with your welded with your open why'd you weld it? i think slow speed drifts would be kinda hard with an open lsd

in lsd is crucial for serious drifters or just road(track) racing.since ive only driven a car with a nissan vlsd..which is like 1.5wayi dont have the experiance to choose but so far the 1.5 way is the best.

not true. ive driven with an open, a vlsd, and now an ATS 1.5 way. the vlsd is NOTHING like the 1.5 way. the vlsd sucked compared to the ATS (obviously).

Nissans Vlsd is closest to a 1.5way compared to a 1.5 and 2wayi didnt mean it was a 1.5 wayand like ive said iv only driven a car with a vlsd so i wouldnt know exactly how a 1.5 way reacts

If you plan on DD your drift car then I say get a 1.5 way

If you plan on only drifting the $hit out of the car then just go welded

2 ways only really come into play because they offer just as much limited slip in acceleration as braking, which isn't such a big issue on FR cars, now if you were tracking a car and it was FF or AWD then that would be a different story.
