15x6.5 stock teardrop (15lbs) only hold 205's16x7 Enkei RS5 (19 lbs) hold up to 225's,

assuming that either would have really nice tires,

what i really want to know is, would the extra 4 lbs on each corner be worth the extra grip of the wider tire, bigger wheel, in a road race situation? The reason i ask is that all of my tires are starting to wear out a once, and i need to figure out what my long term plan is.

I'd stick with the teardrops (you sure they're 6.5?...I thought they were 15x6). Anyway, a sticky tire will make up for the size (remember the contact patch). Lighter, less unsprung weight and I assume the smaller diameter can increase the initial acceleration (compared to the 16).

you can get bigger wheels than those enkeis that weigh less also...my kosei's are like 16.5 lbs for a 16x7.5 in wheel

id say wait and get lighter 16s when the opportunity presents itself

If you really want to go with 16's (like i do) hold out for lighter ones, i have a 92' S13 and my alloys are 18lbs a piece plus the weight of the z-brakes up front means a lot of unsprung weight. So i'm aiming for 16lbs or less. If all else fails, get some lightweigth 15x7's (or wider) and you can throw on sticky 225 or 215/50's on them. Just remember the offset of the wheel is going to dictate how wide a tire you can run without rubbing.

i was thinking of selling my RS5s and buying some RPF1's (i think thats what theyre called) or some K1's. so i guess until i can do that ill have to mount new race tires on the teardrops. thanks for the help.

and maybe the teardrops are 15x6, youre probably right.

konig helium 15's are not even 11 lbs a piece...the 17's, which i have, are about the same weight as my stock wheels (~18 lbs).
