I just got the rims in today for my M35x (Silver body, charcoal interior)

The rims I wanted are the ones on the right of this picture (The darker ones), however some weird thing happened and they sent me the wheels on the left (lighter/more silver); which do you think looks better on a Silver M35x?

Thanks

Here are the images (you can "quote" my post to see what I did differently; basically you had it right but you pasted the link to the new window that comes up when you click the image in the gallery instead of the address of the picture itself [which always ends in .jpg or other image file extension]).

I'd have to see them on the car to be absolutely sure, but I really like the darker one.

More importantly, what is weight, strength, hubcentricity and offset?

Color makes no difference to performance, and little to appearance while operating the car.

Thanks for the advice/tips

I do understand its more my preference (than anyone else's); basically since the rims were the same (minus color) - I was really looking for an opinion of what was better on the silver car - Sounds like the more silver rims work better with my body color; so I have decided to go with them; they are still not exactly what I wanted - they have to send them back to the factor to have the edges machines to get the "diamond cut" on them; but I guess thats faster than having them redone completely... so I have opted to go with the silver'ish wheels and get the diamond cut done - hopefully they will be back shortly after I get back from my holidays..

Thanks for everyones time!

DUDES...Forgeline wheels started off in racing and these should be VERY light. You need to go to their web site and look at a SEMA video that shows their RIM LIP COLOR TINTS!

Dave Shardt in the video is a great guy and will take good care of you.

It blows me away that people don't pay attention to the wheel weight as it will greatly reduce unsprung weight and improve performance.

MaxnixI'm not sure the data you speak off; I had the wheels custom done, and they built them specific for the M35x with the offsets required etc; I didn't actually make them any "deeper" or anything, just 19" vs 18" - I assume (maybe a mistake) that the wheels guys did that right; I will ask them these questions and see what they come back with to ensure its right; what type of numbers should I be looking for?

infinitiandbeyondI pay attention to the weight; I wanted the lightest ones I could find that supported the weight of this car;Forgeline does have great history - I am however a little upset with the guys I purchased the wheels from, and the drama around this order - and the fact after 3 months I cant get the Michelin PS2 I wanted, the rims are the wrong color, and are missing the diamond cut - they are tittering on the line of blaming forgeline and many other drama things going on with that. They had decided after a few hours of back and forth that they would pay the fees to cut the diamond edge into the wheels and the shipping (Ground only).

It is a aggravating to wait 3 months for stuff, and then be told I can't get it, and the stuff that does come is wrong. at least they are trying to step up and resolve the issue, but to reorder the new wheels (the color and everything I wanted) would take a few months I'm told - I'm not that patient - I wish they had more clout with forgeline and could get them done faster...

oh well, whats done is done - now I just have to live with it...

I would have to say this is "a-typical" but if they take them back, that is a good first step.

When you get them on, I would be anxious to see pictures!!!

Please post them and use FORGELINE in the subject. After much thought I am specifically looking for 5-spokers. Although I don't live far from the Tire Rack and would go there for a closer look as well.

Well;The new Rims and Wheels are in, and they will be installed and ready to post a picture for Monday!Its going to take the weekend as I forgot that they had to paint the calipers and stuff, and I guess they need to do at least 2 coats of paint, and let them cool down before they paint, and then dry really good before they put the wheels back on (so dust doesn't stick to them);

So in a nut shell... They are doing that all friday, and I get the car back Monday AM so the paint can cure and not get damaged from heat if I drive it too early; I will snap some pictures Monday and post if all goes well;

In case your wondering, I went ahead with the silver wheels; but did get the diamond cutting done - I saw them today, and they do look nice (at least to me).

I'm having a hard time deciding what color to make the calipers (black or silver) and Need to decide by Friday AM; Any suggestions? I'm leaning towards black as they tell me the silver are a shinny silver...

I will have to post pictures this week, early; I have been busy building some stuff around the house and what not so no time to snap the pictures; it was pouring rain here for 2 weeks and thats why I missed my chance the first time - I will make a point of doing it Monday or tuesday;

The wheels look pretty good - not what I expected - but when you see them we will have to see;

The crappy part is I curbed the wheel hard a few days after I got them, and now I have to order a new one to replace it!

Anywaysl I'll post the picts Mon/Tue for all to seetk

Well; I finally snapped a few pictures; Take a look at tell me what you think;I also discovered that some wheel companies will do anything to lighten the weight of a wheel, and that turns out to mean in my case that the wheel has had so much metal removed that the inside of the rim "cups" water. Which I was not expecting. This is not a big deal except that when it rains, the inside of the rim collects water, and then makes the car not drivable at speeds near 100km/60mph... a very un-expected issue;

So as a result; I have decided to (and did so today) order the Factory 2006-2007 sport wheels from Joe at Infiniti (a sponsor here). They should be here by the end of next week;

I'm VERY disappointed in the unexpected development of the water cupping issue of the rim, and how it drastically changes the wheel balance to a point you literally bounce on the road... I guess these wheels are built for less rainy area's!

Here is a few pictures of the car with these wheels on. they will be coming off in a week or so, and will be for sale. I curbed one of the wheels, so it will be replaced (not fixed, replaced). If your interested, I will be taking offers on them... (Decent value, and for those who understand, and can be accepting of this common issue with these type of wheels!)

Let me know your thoughts!

That is a serious design flaw and I would go back to the manufacturer and demand a refund.

I went down that path, this is the way wheels are designed and there is nothing I can do about it - "I should have known" was the answer I got from the local guys here - this is said t be very common on high end after market wheels! I was going to try and call Forgeline this week and see what they say direct, but after the gongshow with the order (6 months to get them to start with!) - I just want this issue behind me, and frankly I will never buy a set of aftermarket wheels again - this was the most stupid thing I have ever run into!

I'm looking at buying a sports car (likely a porsche) at the end of the year/jan 2009) and I will even then stay with the factory wheels... I wish I had known about this before I ordered the wheels! Thats what I'm most upset with... I feel cheated by the guys who sold it to me...

I think the lighter ones would have been better, but that's all irrelevant now. How much were you able to order the 06-07 oem sport wheels for? I'm considering that myself.

Cakedaddy I called forgeline today, and the sales manager there was very helpful; I went through the call pretending to want to buy a new set of wheels, and he disclosed with no issue the differances in the choice between what the call a standard shell and reveresed shell; - turns out that the standard shell is lighter, and it has no pooling/cupping effect; The reveresed shell wheels, are actually a tad heavier, and do that; I guess I had a choice at time of order!

So after he explained that, I told him my story, and he wants to help out; I may be able to have a new rim shell made in a 20" and reuse the centers. He is checking with the production manager when he is back next week; Forgline was very helpful; I shared with him where I got the wheels, and he even recalls the whole mix up in colors, and design etc - these wheels have been a pain!

He said he wants to help, and frankly I don't expect them to, as it its clear to me after doing some research on this that I should have been told I had a choice in wheel hub/shell - and what the pro/con was for each design. I fault the local dealer who sold them. I have asked them to step up and assist me with this issue, and I'm waiting to learn what they will do for me;

At the end of the day, I know I will loose money, and I'm hoping to mitigate it. I think that it was very poor service, and lack of care by the selling dealer that caused all these issues. I cant tell you how pissed off I am about this, and the money I had to spend so far to deal with this; These wheels now, with the new tires I'm in for over $12,000 (with the cost of the new wheels from Infiniti I ordered), so basically, I have wasted about $6000 so far.

I'm reserving judgment on the dealer I purchased them from at this point until they have a chance to step up. Forgeline I can say seems to know the wheel design business, this disclosure happened within minutes of the conversation. And there expression of wanting to help me out is respected.

I guess there is a valuable lesson here about the rim shells/hubs that I had never heard of before. Turns out after asking around, no one that purchased wheels in the past in my circle has ever heard of this before. I guess most places order the standard shell/hub - and avoid this or the selling dealers are better at educating the client at time of sale?

I hope at the very least, someone else can avoid this issue in a future purchased here on the forum - lots of talk about wheel size, weight, offset - but frankly we should update the wheel sticky here to include this standard shell/hub and reveresed shell/hub for future buyers...

Tim, I am very sorry to hear about this issue ... feel bad for you!

I have to admit that I am not a knowledgeable wheel buyer and I have never heard of this kind of internal cupping problem. But, FWIW, I am glad you are changing them out now rather than trying to keep them and waiting till winter - I am sure that the problem would be worse with snow instead of water.

I will add some information to wheel stickies ... please take some picture if you get a moment, and I will post them there too.

ZThanks for the feedback - the anger will go away, the wheels as you have said yourself is one of the most important safty elements in a car, why take any chances! Swaping them out is the ONLY choice I have with this issue, I'm not about to put my familes well being knowingly at risk.

I will post some pictures when the wheels come off the car; its hard to get a photo inside the wheel with out it being up on a hoist of the wheels off the car. With any luck, Joe Tenesky says my new wheels will be here next week (end of).

Cakedaddy; the $12,000 CAD$ is for 2 sets of wheels the rubber and install/taxes so far; Currently the wheels I have to take off the car cost me $1400 each USD$ = taxes and shipping, install etc. so thats $5600 for the wheels that are useless, plus taxes shipping, call it an even $6000 approx USD;

I was referring to the wheel upgrade project with the new infinity wheels and other misc hard costs so Im into this for about $12,000 CAD$ - so far losing abut $6000 on the transaction for the wheels I'm pulling off..

This isn't including my own stupid mistake of hitting the curb, which is going to be another $550 to have the outer shell replaced before I can try and sell them!

Not to mention, the hours of research I had to do, to get to the bottom of this issue...

I'm really hoping the guys from forgeline come back and tell me I can swap out the other shells for a standard shell/hub - which will force the wheels to a 20" - to get a 19" OD with Standard Shell the center (forged part of rim) is about 18" - so we are hoping that after they drop the specs into the CAD system, it comes back and says with some minor tweaking we can create a proper 20" OD and use the 19" centers I have now; this will at least allow me to use the wheels, or sell them with a clear mind. (I dont mind selling them to someone that knows what to expect, and lives in an area that rain or snow is not an issue for them, but thats not many places in north america!)

As a said before Forgeline at the very least is been very helpful - they from the start have not hide the fact that this cupping issue exists - which is why you can order the wheels in both ways from them. The local dealer for this brand really seems to think that there was no choice and the "standard shell/hub" was in fact the special order by exception....

None the less, until they step up (which may happen) and do something for me, I'm not ready to call it a day... they have offered to show them in the shop, and try selling them for me already.

I'll give it a bit more time and see what happens!

Thanks to all for the support and empathy... its good to be with a group that understands...tk

Joe of Everythinginfinity shipped my wheels out today, and was very prompt and provided tracking numbers etc - really easy to order stuff from him!! Great sponsor, and saved me a ton of cash; the rims in Canada would have cost me a tad over $6000 CAD, but I was able to get them, with shipping for a hair over $3000 from him... Great guy to do some business with... I hope to have these new factory sport wheels on before end of next week;

no word back from the local shop that sold me my first wheels on what, if anything they can do for me... in case anyone was still interested in that part of the story;

Well;After wresting with DHL on paper work; i got the wheels;The crappy part is one has some pretty minor damage, but one wheel as dent on the inside lip...

I really regret buying new wheels! this has been a complete pain in the *** to get these new wheels for the car... I'm pretty certain I will never buy another set of wheels again... 7 months now, and still no wheels I can put on this car for the summer, tons of cash spent...

I hope that Joe at Everythinginfiniti can at least help get the wheels replaced for the ones they just shipped me... I left him a voice mail, and email a few minutes ago....

I can not wait until this saga is over - oh wait, its almost winter here.. these wheels will be coming off shortly to put the snow tires on in a few months.... will there be no relief with this!!!
