I have a 1985 720 4x4 and have had some carb issues for a while with it (idle, choke, etc.). I have been very interested in swapping to a weber carb for a couple years and am finally going to do it. Im curious as to which of the webers would be best for a decent power gain without drastic fuel economy loss. I have heard the 34/34 is a good choice... what about the 38? Or the newer 36/36 syncro? Let me know! Thanks

I know a common choice for most datsuns are the 32/36. I run one and it hasn't failed me yet. Can't say the same for my old stocker.

For the best fuel economy use the 32/36. It gives decent power and maintains economy. The 34/34 and the 38 uses more fuel but gives a drastic improvment in power, but with such increases the economy goes out the window. Had a 32/36 on a NAP Z20 in a 1984 Mitsubishi Galant supersaloon, and my uncle has one on his 1983 720. The fuel economy is fantastic!

34/34 was running great, then blew head gasket.

i dont think the carb caused it more a result of my driving style after the install of the new carb

so, after the carb is installed, what happens with my 652 vacuum hoses and all the goofy wiring? Lol the vacuum hoses and emission controls were sadistic on these old trucks....

I live in the Caribbean so smog controls are not an issue. I blanked all the egr and isolated the wiring which was not necessary. Sorry I cannot help more.

basically the only vac lines you need are the distributor advance and the EEC canister ones

you can even get rid of the EEC canister ones if you come up with some other way preventing vapor lock in the tank... i'm in the process of figuring this one out

as far as the wiring... start cutting wires with the truck running and see which ones affect it... its more of a 'test and play' thing
