not to jack up this thread, but I have 26mm calipers, can i use any 3oozx rotors? or do they have to be specific for the year 199o?

A friend of mine installed my Z32 brake setup this past weekend, so I know exactly what you are talking about. I have a blown up diagram showing the assembly of the shims, pads, clip, pins, and cross spring. I will scan it into a file and post it here as soon as possible. In the meantime, let me see if I can help you:

Assuming that the brake pads are in the center as far as a reference point:

- The black slotted shims go immediately onto the brake pads (one shim on each pad). They attach to the outer surface of the pads (the side which does NOT face the rotors). Make sure to use some of the brown goo in the packets to cover the surface of the brake pads that faces the black slotted shims. By the way, the little angled tabs on the shims should be facing toward the brake pads (they basically hug the brake pads). These tabs should be facing upward i.e. towards the top of the calipers i.e. on the same side that the pins slide through the brake pads. - The shiny shims go directly onto the black slotted shims. Again, cover the surface between the shims with the brown goo. Also, the little angled tabs should be facing the black shims. They should also be facing upward just like the black slotted shims.

- In the end, the pins that hold the brake pads in place will go through both shims (first the shiny shim, then the black slotted shim) before sliding through the holes of the brake pads.

- To do the above installation you need four black slotted shims, two for each rotor. You said you received three which means they forgot to include one. Might want to get that rectified.

- We ended up not using the four little hook things. First of all, we weren't sure how to use them. Then even after figuring out where they went, they actually got in the way, so we removed them. The diagram I mentioned above doesn't include them either.

Let me know if you have any other questions. I didn't do the installation but helped and watched closely so I can assist to the extent that I can. My brake installation went smoothly and I'm driving around with them now.

i just put them all together guessing what to do. you rsaid exactly what i needed to know. i did put them together right except i didnt know where to put the brown goo so i will do that when i install them on the car. those hook things do seem kinda dumb. seems like they do jsut hodl everything together which might not be needed. thanks a ton man. that diagram would still be great to put up

Squeeze some of the brown goo, just a little, onto the brake pad surface (facing away from the rotor) and use a knife or popsicle stick to spread it on the brake pad. You just need a thin layer on the pad between the pad and the black slotted shim. Do the same thing to the shiny shim so that you have the same thin layer between the shiny shim and the black slotted shim. Hope that helps.

I don't have a scanner so I have to get it scanned at my mother-in-law's house. I will try to post it within the next couple of days, if not sooner.
