I've found a bunch of posts about transmission coolers and many using the B&M model but which one? They have about 9 of them. The guide on q45.org says Wes used a B&M but he didn't mention the model number either, just that it was about $50.

Between the radiator and condenser, the 70268. Since you are in AZ, I would recommend the 70264 mounted where the active cooler is mounted on those cars.

Get a plate type. I bought the B&M 70268 at about 60 buck shipped from Summit Racing. I've been dealing with Summit for years and they run a great business. You could use a larger type of cooler but this one is plenty fine. I hooked mine up in series with the stock radiator cooler and mounted it in front of the radiator. Better cooling as opposed to behind it. I prefer the plate type over the tube type. The plate types also look nicer.

Now if you plumbed it with the OEM one from what I understand it would only provide better cooling over OEM if you connected it after the OEM radiator. If you connect it before the OEM radiator would you not just cool the fluid before the OEM one warmed it back up? This would require determining which lines were in and out from the OEM cooler. Is my theory correct?

I assume the 70264 is larger? I don't think I can use the active cooler location on my car, that's where the turbo compressor plumbing enters the engine bay. There's plenty of room up front, I can find a spot. Need to keep the large area behind the bumper open tho as I'll be adding an IC at some point.

Thanks for all the info and part numbers, I will definitely be picking one of these up. My transmission will love me for it. I've been giving it quite a workout lately

I also have a new transmission filter kit from Joe sitting in the garage, I need to get that installed while I'm at it. Maybe I can push a few more horses to the wheels!

Alright, just looked at them at Summit. The 70264 is 7.25"x11x 1.5" vs. .75" thick on the 70268. I guess I'll do a little measuring this weekend and decide which route to go.

It's best to instal fluid coolers with the inlet below the outlet, to bleed air from the system. Mine is from transmission to radiator, upper radiator line to lower cooler line, upper cooler line to in-line filter to transmission. I mounted my cooler sideways for this effect.

Any of you guys have mounting photos for ideas? I've seen one mounted under where the OEM airbox is, in the active suspension cooler area, and in between the radiator and condenser. Any other pics you guys can post?

Well I just want to stir up the pot. Did you guys plumb your cooler before or after the radiator?

I did mine in series because I lived in Seattle and Texas does have winters.

On the early ones, definitely skip the one tank heat exchanger.

If an extra transmission cooler was necessary why didn't Infiniti put one on as standard equipment? After all this is supposed to be a $50,000 luxury car. If you want to know about heavy duty check out the extra cooling on a Ford Crown Victoria police interceptor. They have oil coolers and power steering coolers too. Even the lowly G20 has a power steering fluid cooler (just some tubing).http://www.used-police-cars.com/cardetails.html

Gee, Victor you need to read some of the previous posts and study the FSM. Infiniti added a second heat exchanger tank and an external filter in 1994 before down grading to the coke can in the lower tank design with no filter for the FGY33.

One also has to understand that OEM minimal recommended maintenance schedules are just to ensure the systems are beyond the OEM warranty when they fail so it is not on Infiniti's dime.

Notice how they owned up to early VH45DE guide failures? Just about like every other maufacturer.

Yeah, I think that was pretty ****ty to not do a recall on the chain guides and fix it at the manufacturers expense. Seems they should have done a recall on the power door locks on the J30 too, everyone has issues with them.
