alright im new to this board and but not new to nissans.. ive owned my Datsun/Nissan 280ZX for over 15 years now and in the next 2 months im planning on buying either a 2001 and up QX4 or a 04 pathfinder... ive got around $20,000 to put down on either the 2.. and i wanted to get your opinion on which one i should get... i really like the QX4 but if the 2 trucks are pretty much the same... am i jsut wasting that extra few grand for the QX4... i wanna know what you guys think......

I have both a 2001 Pathfinder LE and an Infinity QX4 and love them both. The engines are of course identical, but the QX4 has an "automatic" "all-wheel drive" transfer case vs. the manual case in the Pathy. Leather and trim in the QX4 are a bit nicer. I like the two-tone paint and the cladding on the QX4. Also, with the QX4 you won't see yourself coming and going all the time. You also get the top notch Infinity customer service.

Bottom line- you pay a bit more for the QX4 but I consider it money well spent.

I believe the QX4 has more car-like driving characteristics also. While the Pathfinder is more truck like.

The 04 pathfinder LE and the QX4 are the same exact vehicle with minor styling changes.

To get the pathy loaded like the q it will run you close to 32k new(trust me I know). Full leather, bose six-disk in dash changer, auto 4 wheel drive, auto climate control, heated power seats, tow package, roof rack, 17" wheels w/AT tires, It's got everything. The platinum edition was only released in 2004 and it is the same thing as a qx4. I don't know what pricing is like for the q but I imagine it's probably right around the same. There were just a few minor details that turned me off to the q. I love the pathy though, nicest damn SUV I've ridden in. The 5 link rear end is a bit rough from time to time but not that bad, and the q has the same suspension. Basically it comes down to Nissan Pathfinder LE Platinum Edition=Infiniti QX4

It comes down to a 2001-2002 low mileage QX4 for $21K vs. the 2004 Pathfinder "Platimum" for $30K.

I know you already made a choice, but for other people checking out this thread I highly recommend the QX4 over a Pathy. When they were new, the QX4 was quite a bit more expensive, but used QX4's and similar equipped Pathfinders don't seem to have the big price difference, at least in my area. In the case of 2001+ choice, the QX4 is by far a better deal now. The HID headlights and electro-flourescent gauges really "make" the vehicle. Infiniti service is usually better, too. As for pre-2001 choices, the differences are not that great as the 2001+ models.

Wanted to add my experience...

A year ago I bought a cream puff 2001 QX4 off of Ebay for $18,000. It was far cheaper than Pathfinders were selling off the dealer lots in my area for.I love heated seats for my aching back and the larger 3.5 engine and the All-Wheel-Drive for bad storms and off road camping. Nitro
