I currently have the Stock 17 inch wheels with the STock Potenza RE 040's.

Those are Summer Performance Tires, but as its getting Winter I believe its too dangerous to keep them on.

I don't want to go with outright Snow Tires, like Blizzaks, as I still intend to often drive at hi interstate speeds, possibly for long distances and possibly a couple states south during the winter and I know outright Snow tires fall to pieces during those condtions.

So I am looking for tires, that are All seasons with real good winter abilities w/o sacrificing the above driving criteria.

I heard Michelin MXM4 might be a good fit but they are spendy.

Any Comments?

Fred..

You might want to look into the Pilot Sport A/S, good tires in the wet especially. I would imagine they would be good in the snow as well.

Love your guys suggestions!

But I was looking for something more "All-seasony" Than Pilots, closer to a Wintetire w/o beiing a snow tire.

I would trust a Michelin Pilot A/S over any other tire in it's catagory. I know what they can do in crappy weather even with a 400bhp 4000 lb. VR4 behind it. They are excellent tires.

If you can afford them, the Sport A/S is your ticket.

Here's why:they'll perform well dry, wet and snow...

You won't have to change them out each snow season, since their dry and wet performance is still very respectable.

longer treadlife than nearly any Z rated tire

the come in your split setup sizing

they have three compounds:-the center rib is designed (for her pleasure!) for flexibility and lower rolling resistance/higher mileage, whbile remaining flexible in the winter, its a silica type compound (with other additive).-The tread from the center to the mid-shoulder is a silica/rubber compound designed with extra micro-sipes and higher void for better winter traction(it stays flexible when cold), better wet weather traction and low noise.-THe outer shoulders (where during the winter, you won't be using...nohard cornering) are pure rubber/carbon black for better dry and wet grip during hard cornering.

if you still want a snow tire, that performs when it DOEN't snow, take a look at the Pilot alpin PA2, and the BLizzaks.

I have a set of Falken 512s, they work great in the rain, and they're really good (as far as all-seasons go) on dry pavement, too.

Thanks to all that answered!

So are they almost as good in snow ( likely will move to MD) as Alpin PA2's?Any comments on the MXM4s?

I will keep a seperate set of peformance tires ( Potenza RE040) so outright summer performance is not a priority as long as they are good in snow and still decent if I travel far on hiway and go a few states south and exp higher temps.

But I need to buy tires soon I was hoping to get them from tirerack but I need them yesterday.

I am thinking maybe I am going too far north for just an all season.A proper winter (performance) tire may be a must as I will do much traveling this winter.the <only> winter perfoamnce tire that seems to fit my stock 17 inch is this:http://www.tirerack.com/tires/...ng=ZR

Otherwise my best choice would be the Dunlop Winter Sport M3 alas it is not available for my wheels:http://www.tirerack.com/tires/...&VT=C

Most winter tire sizes are smaller width with a higher aspect ratio, this aides in preventing the tire from wanting to remain on top of the snow (the snow shoe effect).

Fred-

OK, if you have seperate wheels, get the PA2's...put them in in mid-november(or whenver snow starts to be a distinct posibility) and swap them out in say...march.

PA2's fair well for dry driving for a winter tire...Michelin makes a killer product, period.

you may have to go with a 215-55-17 all around for winter driving, the elongation of the contact patch will help controll in slush anyway....and there may be more available in that size (or run the 225-50-17 all around)

Yes I want to keep my nearly new Potenzas as Summer Tires and in winter use something real grippy.

As some will recall I crashed a wonderful car in northern winter 3 years ago wearing the wrong tires.
