I'm going to be picking up a set of 18s soon and I've been looking into tire options. The stock size (235/45) seems to be an odd one and I'm not seeing many choices that I like. There are many more choices if I change to 225/45 or 245/45. I've done the calculations and a 225 will be 1.3% too fast while a 245 will be 1.4% too slow. I would think that being slightly too slow would be better fo the odometer, plus I'd like to have the greater contact patch. Is my thinking right or am I off base?

What brands are you looking at? I find a lot of tires in the 235/45 size...

Are you looking for summer or all season?

I want to buy my wheels from discount tire direct, so I'm kinda locked in to what they have in the 235 size. Mounting and balancing are free so if I bought wheels and tires from different vendors and took them someplace locally for mounting I'd end up paying more. They only have 5 tire choices and two of them are Kumhos. If I go to the 245s I can get the Dunlop SP Sport Maxx which is a really good tire and there's an $80 mail in rebate on them right now.

The Altima is my summer car (I have a Jetta Wolfsburg with snow tires for the winter) so I wanted to go with either a summer only or a very high performance all season. In the fall I'll swap the stockers back on just in case I need to run out over the winter in the car.

Best A/S tire you can buy.

EDIT: I see they are out of stock....

Why don't you try looking around at other sites like TireRack or something?

It seems like you did your home work. Yes, what you have said is correct. It's all personal preference, using your logic, I would go with 245/45, this tire will give you a softer ride (more rubber).

I used to have 235/45 and I changed to 245/45 and I am happy with them.
