i can't determine whether i need to replace the "inner" or "outer" tie-rod.

sometimes on the freeway the right-front wheel starts wobbling after hitting a bump and i have to steer harsh-left or right to catch it.

sure its not the wheel bearing... also will have to get alignment after this... looking for a cost effective repair...

any help?

Sounds serious{dangerous} enough of a condition both to you and every driver around you to warrant a PROFESSIONAL DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR, not some sidechair guessing and playing Monay morning quarterback from laymen on the internet!!!!

Jack that mother up securely and have someone grab the tire at 3 and 9 and shake it slowly back and forth. If you have a wobble that bad it should be immediately obvious by just looking at the linkage from underneath the beast.

Tie rod ends themselves are easy to replace, but if it's worn to the point of wobble while driving then it's possible that some additional major surgery may also be in order. If it's outside your sphere of ability, best bet is to take it to someone and have it done right.
