need to order some plugs so which one do I need? I have an rb25det, don't know what year.

Irridiums: bkr6eix-11 (cooler), bkr5eix-11 (hot) or is it "bcp"Platinums: pfr6a-11 (cooler), pfr5a-11 (hot)

I've searched everywhere and I am confused and it's 10:30pm.

Please help.

When should you use hot or cold plugs? Planning on running stock boost for awhile with fmic, no boost controller, no afc. Just stock set-up except for fmic. Also planning on adding an alcohol injection system so I can run 91 octane.

thanks

I believe I have a series I but I might be confused. It's something with the coil packs, right? How can I tell for sure?

SERIES SHOULDN'T MATTER.... AND I WOULD GO COLDER WITH A TURBO ENGINE. IF YOU HAD A NA ENGINE I WOULD GO HOTTER.

Ok, generally you should use the stock manufacturer recommended plugs.

However.. most people who are into engine performance these days typically use one step colder. On any engine really, regardless of N/A or F/I - the higher the compression and more dense the A/F ratio, the colder the plug you should use.

For your setup, I would run NGK irridiums in a range of 7, and gap them at 1mm or so if you are on stock boost. You can always expirement with the gap and see what your engine prefers.

On my N/A Honda engine with 11:1 compression I ran NGK PFR7G-11. These are the stock recommended plugs for that engine too. With that info, hopefully you understand a little bit more about the heat range you should run.

If you ever plan on upping the boost, one step colder of a plug will be beneficial too. Playing with the gap will determine how well it runs...

Look for elwesso (under Users), he's got a great hook up on NGK's and he may be able to offer some advice as well.

I offer the PFR5G-11 and PFR6G-11..... I usually recommend hotter type for naturally aspirated engines, and the colder for forced.....

See my banner for prices (which are unbeatable)

YES GOING HOTTER ON ANYTHING WITH RAISED COMPRESSION COULD BE DANGEROUS BUT IF YOUR COMPRESSION REMAINS THE SAME YOU'LL SEE A BETTER BURN OUT OF A HOTTER PLUG.

You should search this forum. There was a detailed debate on this a few months ago with some links to technical discussions of iridium vs. platinum, hot vs. cold, etc. on the web.

Wow... that is a good price elwesso. I payed 12 per plug when I bought the PFR6A-11 for my last motor. Unless you have a lot of mods, it was recommended by a couple of reliable sources to use these plugs and regap them to .8mm (motorex, meggala). It was also mentioned to use copper and not waste the money on iridium or platinum.

people get so hung up on the platinum and iridium thing.

most people dont understand that all those exotic metals do for a spark plug is make them last longer.

copper has less resistance than platinum or iridium, and will provide a hotter spark. so what if you have to gap/replace them more often? there cheaper and work better.
