What is the car for and how much power are you looking for?

it's really your choice. You shouldn't let anyone push you to do one or the other.

Crazed, I am in the same boat you are. I am gonna be getting a 240 soon and I don't know which I want.

The way I see it is like this..SR20 Pros:Factory turbo motor, lighter, huge aftermarket, easy to make big numbers, may have a better head (not sure yet), probably lower miles, cool valve cover ;)

Cons:Much smaller, has to be imported, if you break something you may be SOL, wiring, wiring, wiring, iffy valvetrain, might be harder for emissions (not a problem in my state, YMMV)

KA-T Pros:Iron block, big torque, stock parts are cheap as hell, already has a nice setup (oil squirters and whatnot), more streetable, no wiring or other BS to mess with, nice valvetrain

Cons:More than likely will have to do a rebuild due to mileage, requires a bit more attention to detail to make sure you dont break something, aftermarket is pretty limited, turbo kits are very expensive

As far as price goes, i think in the end they probably come out to be pretty close, although I mentioned turbo kit prices, you gotta consider a clip+shipping+all the misc stuff you'll need adds up.. so it evens out more or less.

Personally I've come to a bit of a stalemate. :P Anyone who has more to add or suggestions please chime in.

I would just go with KA24DE and rebuild it. Then I would add an turbo kit. That what I am going to do over the summer.

I would love to go with one of those if the aftermarket support was a bit stronger here. If you've got some money lying around, go for the sr20. even though it's already been mentioned, it's just easier to find parts for it, and any of the imported ones will probably have much lower mileage. It's already turboed, for less than the price of a Ka turbo kit, you could have a new motor with a turbo, and its much easier to coax power out of a turboed engine. Not saying that Ka-t's are slow, but the price of most turbo kits for the ka are very expensive $3000+, not to mention upgrading the motor, and possibly rebuilding it if the mileage on your ka is high enough, and many of them do very high mileage on them. And parts for the ka aren't quite as plentiful or as nice as those for the Sr (meaning more of the big-name, high-quality japanese tuners make parts for the SR than for the KA, since the engine was never available in japan for the s13 or s14 chassis, lucky bastards). But if you just want a somewhat fast street car, and just wanna do basic modifications, stick with the ka. Best of luck in whatever you choose buddy.
