I am buying a short shifter soon and cant decide between the nismo or the b&m. I have heard alot of good things about the b&m but almost nothing about the nismo. Has anyone tried it?

I don't have the Nismo, but as I recall it's not a much shorter throw than stock. That could be why nobody uses it. It may "feel" better than stock, but I don't think it's anywhere near as short a throw as the B&M.

If anyone around here owns one and see this, hopefully they can give you some first hand info. I do agree though, I've hardly seen anyone using the Nismo unit.

When I get a short shifter, I'm definitely going with the B&M. The rattle at high RPMs issue, even if it hasn't been sorted out, doesn't really concern me. Hell, my car is 11 years old...it rattles no matter what!

I dont really know those shifters by experince but i fell the Nismo short shifter would b the better chose.

1.The Nismo products r made for Nissan only so that means they must test this product to the best pperformance

2.Being a Nissan product u can b sure that it will b better compatible to ur car.

If you look at the Nismo unit, it's not even called a 'short shifter' it doesn't reduce the throws, hence it's called a 'solid shifter' It looks identical to the OE unit, being that it's a single piece, maybe it's heavier, by looking at it, i don't see what's so special. I think it's a jip.

The B&M is a nice unit, overpriced too (compared to B&M units for any other vehicle, ours cost the most ) I've heard good about it, but i've also heard some whiners complaining how easy it is to accidently miss a gear/or shift into the wrong gear because the throws are so short that it's hard to feel the 'H' gates. And then there's the rattling. As for me i have an ebay unit that's based off the C's short shifter made by RVM. I don't like it, mostly because the bushing is too small compared to OE. I will either try to fix the bushing, get a different short shifter altogether (maybe a Pilot instead) or there's always the Tanabe Sustec transmission brace, it's a urethane bushing that goes between the transmission and the transmission tunnel to reduce transmission movement while shifting.. PLUS they give you a metal bushing for your shifter and a couple of clamps to help stiffen things up.

i love my B&M, some people b**** about the humming, but that only happens at 5500 RPM, to me that just tells me to shift lol. Just be sure to tighten the shift knob really well, or else the humming turns to a rattling which is really bad.

Do you have any issues going into certain gears? Do you have an s13 or s14? s13's have more synchro issues than the s14's transmission does; so i forwent the b&m in fear of messing up my synchro's due to the possibility of missing/grinding gears because the throws are uber close ( 3rd gear grind problem has been virtually gone ever since i put amsoil in the gearbox)

Recently purchased and installed the B&M unit. Very high quality part (as is usual from B&M). It is indeed a short throw shifter and fits as good as if not better than a factory part. I put one of the Nismo dildo-knobs on it and because the inside threaded part of the knob is plastic, there is essentially NO rattling from the shifter. There is a light humming above 4K but one audible if the radio is off.Yes, it is pricey, but the quality is there and it transforms the shifting of the 240 from mediocre to world-class. This is not the first short-shifter I have owned or driven, but it is definitely one of (if not THE) the best.

My buddy Chris has the B&M. I've got the C's. The B&M does feel stiffer from side to side, and the shifts are shorter in some gears I think it's 3 and 4. But there is a whirring sound that reminds me of a cassette player in reverse in the B&M unit. The only other drawback I see on the B&M is the actual install. It's a pita to get the 6 bolts off and on when you're installing it. Also if you gotta do a clutch job, man there it goes again. They're both way shorter than stock. I got my motor installed with a 5 speed, I was originally on an AT, and when I tried out a stock shifter it felt totally alien to me. Quite the worthy upgrade. Can't go wrong either way in my book.

i might favor the nismo over b.m

short shifter is over rated by people: too short and you risk mis-shifting. If nismo claim it to be a solid shifter, it's exactly what I want, I hate having the stock shifter wobble around when I'm in gear. I think 1 inch reduction is good, I had a skunk2 shifter for my integra. It was solid, doesn't move at all and it feels stock (1 inch reduction.)
