Ok well my parents are looking for a daily driver car to put the miles on. My dad umps baseball and refs soccer, so he drives a lot. They're sick of him putting miles on the new cars. Well we found these two Nissan Sentras.....any input or opinions please.

1993 SENTRA XE vgc,136k hgwy, 5spd, 4dr, cruise, new clutch, alt, batt, ps, fm/cass, auto seat blt. $1450 -Timing chain replaced at 90k-New tires at 123k-New clutch at 128k

1992 NISSAN SENTRA XE, 85K miles, at, 4cyl, ps, pb, $1495 SIGNATURE AUTO SALES-Transmission replaced with a used one-30 Day Warranty

Should we just go on what ones in better shape? My dad would prefer a 5 speed, but doesn't care too much. The 93 has higher miles, but it has a lot of new parts so I'm leaning towards that one personally. We're going to go look at them this weekend to see which one is in better shape mechanically and such.

They're surprisingly spacious for what they are.

The '93 for sure. Mostly cause it's manual, but it sounds really good from that little bit of info.

A friend of mine has an early 90's XE auto... poor car... she's never washed it, or waxed it, or anything... so the paint is pretty much shot, stripped off on over half of the hood, roof, and trunk. She doesn't take care of it at all... pisses me off... oh well, it's an auto...

Anyways, having mentioned that car, a couple things: Don't worry about the engine unless it sounds/looks like **** upon inspection... she drives like a puss but she also doesn't understand the concept of warmup and such either, not to mention that her dad probably forgets to tell her to get the oil changed regularly... anyways, it runs fine... gotta love the SR20DE. Don't worry about the suspension either, unless the ride sucks. She doesn't slow much for speed bumps... oooeeee... I slow like crazy and I think my alignment needs a little tweaking (though an air pressure check is going to come first)... anyways...Finally, check the AC... I never use mine, but most people do, particularly my friend. The AC has been worked on at least 3 times in the past 6 months, I believe, and now it's gone caput. She needs a whole new condensor and shiat... I offered to rip mine out and put it in her car (weight reduction, biatch!) but then I remembered my parents might be kinda pissed if I did that... grr..

Funny random story: she had her car in the shop for the AC about a week and a half ago... someone stole her stereo (aftermarket h/u) and her vents (wtf?)... it's hilarious, I haven't seen it, but I can imagine.

edit: 1der, they are quite spacious... even a usable backseat! :ylsuper

edit2: Funny story number 2: the previous owner convinced her that he had turbocharged it, AHAHAHAHAHAHA... took me a couple days to work that one out of her head.

James I love the sig....too funny. And I'm not looking at a Sentra, my rents are for a beater. I'm just helping them out so they don't get shafted.

In this price range, have you considered a second-gen Maxima? Of course, finding them might be a challenge.

I would have to say, the 92. Less miles.

I would rather have a 5 speed as well. The Sentra 5 speeds are fun as heck to drive. I loved mine, and may pick another one up. But if he really doesnt mind the auto, it sounds like the 92 would be the better choice.

Nametakennow - I didnt think the XE's had the sr20.. I thought they had the 1.6's.... ga16de. I believe only the SE-R's had the sr20's.

I thought so too, but I could almost swear I remember looking at her engine... somewhere I picked up that it's SR powered... lemme check edmunds...

It says 1.6. So damn weird... I really didn't think it was an SR, but I coulda sworn that's what I saw under the hood... dammit, now I have to go look at her car, cause I know it's not an SE-R...

edit: Either way it's still a haus. The GAs will take mondo punishment too... it's no SR, but it's not a POS, either.
