I have a 92 main harness in my CA powered S13 which has 4 pin relay for the AC compressor. It currently is not clicking and turning the compressor on. my friend gave me a 89-90 harness which had a 6 pin relay for the AC.

what would I need 2 extra pins for? is it supposed to be 4 or 6?

I will trouble shoot other issues once I know the relay is good.

The 89-90s used the 6 pin relay to run both the fan and the compressor off the same relay. Since there was a thermo switch in the lower rad hose, it just completed the circuit to the fan from the relay.

On the 91+ models, the fan was put on its own seperate relay. The ECU activates the relay based on temp input from an ambient switch.

Page 66 of the HA section of the 91+ FSM has the wiring diagram for the A/C setups.

Unfortunately, I can only find what looks to be a Chilton's diagram for the 89-90 model. but it should give you an idea of what you're looking for.

To implement the early chassis stuff, you'll have to do a bit of rewiring and get the thermo switch for the lower rad hose (about $70 with the hose from the dealer)

The CAs had an identical setup to the 89-90 240s (except for Europe, but they're...special) The main difference between the two is that the G/Y wire that turns the A/C relays on goes to pin 11 on the KA-E ECU, but it goes to pin 43 on the CA ECU

so then I dont need the 6 pin relay.... just the 4 pin as Im not running my fans off it.

Im using the KA-DE main harness, I just happen to have a secondary harness. I may need to check to make sure my pin out is correct.

The KA-DE ECU activates the secondary relay to turn the fans on based on what a temp switch tells it (not the same temp switch as is on the KA-E/CA) Since you're using a CA on a KA-DE main harness, I would wire in the 6 pin relay to function like the E harness does. The wire colors are the same for the gated side (compressor) and the selenoid side (ECU complete).

What I would do is have the Blue/Orange (which already feeds the selenoid and gated side of the 4 pin relay) also power the other part of the gated relay (which it does power the gated part of the 4 pin A/C fan relay on the DE setup). Then run a wire to a temp probe in your coolant line (whether it be the factory nissan temp probe or one of your choice). Then run the other wire from the temp probe to your A/C fan.

The fan will only turn on when the A/C is turned on and the temp gets hot enough.

Since you probably used the CA engine harness, your ECU pin should be done up correctly, but the pinout in the chassis -> EFI plug is probably wrong. The Green/Yellow wire is the ECU complete for the A/C relay and it goes through the grey 8-pin plug.

The only other A/C circuit wire that goes through that plug that matters for emulating an E/CA setup is the Blue/Green wire. It's the complete for the idle up circuit when the compressor comes on.
