I just noticed the pictures of his car on Q45.org, and I really like his CD player. Probably the only one I'd consider putting to replace the stock BOSE unit...

If anyone knows exactly which model it is, and if it'll fit my 93 J30 - that'd really help me out. I was going to send the OEM BOSE head unit out for repair in a couple days, at a charge of $175. I can't imagine that unit is over $300, and it probably sounds a bit better!

Thanks!!

HIS Q45 IS BADASS, tons of props - such a nice clean car!

Any double DIN unit should physically fit, but you'll have to use an adapter or re-wire the entire car.

If you search on ebay, select Consumer Electronics, Car Electronics, Car Audio In-Dash Units, Car CD/Cassette Combos, then search for Pionneer.

Here's a couple I found (click image for link).

Are you saying that it is possible to use an adapter to be able to use an aftermarket headunit without rewiring the entire car? Or in other words, what does an adapter do?

Thanks

Thanks Rex. I never knew that this was possible and for only $40. Every person I ever asked always told me that I had to rip everything out of the car and start all over for a Bose system. My last car had Bose and I never changed anything for that reason.

Good luck with your new purchase 1993TanJ30. Looks like I may be thinking about doing the same in the near future.

Is the Bose system in a 1991 different than the 1994?

The 1994 Q45 Bose system adds tweeters for MUCH improved clarity. The connectors for 90-94 are the same; 95-96 are different.

Yep, rumor has it someone swapped the A-pillars to an earlier Q to get the tweeters. I say just add something, before going to all that trouble.

Ryan's "Geoff Brahbam" 1992 Q45a has a-pillar tweeters.

I was in love with the rebuilt Bose from my first Q until I met the double DIN from the current Q. Considering that I have some cheap speakers not even close to Bose quality, I like the overall setup much better because of all the sound adjusting options. I'm planning to upgrade the speakers and add a sub in the near future.

I do however like Sijoko's better because it matches the interior perfectly. I too would like to know what unit this is.

If the car is pre-wired for it, how much trouble is there really? Is there a pic or thread showing Ryan's "Geoff Brahbam" 1992 Q45a with the a-pillar tweeters?

He means he liked the bose in his old Q until he got the setup in his current (90) Q.....

If I do any stereo mods its going to be a carputer. HOwever, with XM and my PDA plugged in I dont have any more room for more gadgets!!

one can only do so much while driving..... I personally prefer the clean sleek design in the original Q... you dont have to "button hunt" while your driving....

So what is the difference in the Bose system of a 1991 compared to that of a 1994 other than having tweeters in the A-pillars?

I think its just setup better.... It is just a lot different, the 9093 bose was good for people listening to NPR and prelude in C minor by chopin (which I used to be able to play on the piano, BTW ).. the 94 bose is just better for overall listening, IMHO.. Responsive bass and its fairly clear... I have no qualms except it starts to distort once you have it up higher.... only an issue when the windows are down... When theyre up you will go deaf having it that loud

Ive experienced a lot of other sound systems and when the bass is relaly poundy, yes its nice.. in our GTP its got a really clear sound system, and have adjustments for the lows, mids and highs.. pretty cool... however you have to turn down the bass becaues it juts gets annoying having your ears thunder every third note...

I honeslty think the 94 Q has one of the better sound systems in a car that ive driven (somewhat limited)... I didnt get a chance to test the FX one very much (just radio) but from what I coudl tell it was really nice as well.....

Anyway, i think the differences are the amps and just the overall "tuning" of the system as a whole......

I thought maybe the amp would be bigger. I have all the Bose system from my Acura Legend including the speakers, head unit, and amp...and in the later years of the Legend they had 200w amp instead of 80W. So maybe the Q45's main difference is in the amps?

i dont think its the actual ones because they are interchangeable from year to year... I think a lot of it has to do with the equalizations in the HU and the amps

Thanks, I appreciate it...

Like mentioned before, if you guys have the know-how, and can help me perform the work, I will supply all money, and the doner J30...

I really want to do this, but I'm not sure if it's possible - where is Slim located, and do you think he'd be into helping me do the swap?

Thanks.

Like mentioned before if Slim has the means to do the swap - I will provide the clen doner J30, and the cash - I just want to get this done...

If this isn't done in the next 3-4 months, I'll probably be selling my J30 for a Q45, or another Talon!

210HP A/T just isn't enough for me needs!
