I think the black with red... mostly because I only like the all black if your windows are limo tint and front window tint usually isn't legal to go that dark...

But that's just my opinion! Good luck deciding!

I like the black with red trim; it adds a little pizzazz.

All black or nothing at all, the lip isn't big enough to paint red IMHO. I really only like contrast in color on rims if the lip is fat.

kinda dumb question...but isnt the TPMS attached to the rim? I see those guys stuck there rims in the oven. If the TPMS is attached to the rim could cause majos problems for that device, hopefully its removable.

I know someone that will do it for me for $40 a rim. But I would rather get 18's and new tires with a wider profile.

I plan on getting 18's too.....I just was wanting to do an inexpensive mod for now, and I know guys that have painted their rims and they have held up quite well for over a year so far......

Your going to spend probably around $150 on paint and materials to paint your 4 rims, when with that you can buy 2 tires, or one rim, and continue saving your money for the rest.

Just my $.02

It's totally worth the time and money, especially if he's going to go back into winter mode when the season comes. He can look good all year round.

Im not talking about just paint, materials cost money, even if you already have them, you had to pay for them at one point. you are going to use about 3 cans a rim for proper coverage x 4 at $6 a can + another 2 cans x 4 for primer, plus another can x 4 for the red stripe, that is 24 cans at $6 a can that equals $144 alone. anywho I wish you luck.

24 Cans?? Thats crazy. I cant remember how many sets of rims Ive painted. I think the most Ive used on a single set was 8.

On a set of 18s for a 300zx I recently did, One can did 1 coat on all 4 rims. I did 1 coat of primer, 2 coats of paint, and 3 clear. So I used 1 can of primer, 2 cans of paint, and 3 cans of clear. 6 total.

I think once, and it was one of my earlier tries, have I had anybody come back with bad rock chips. How can you do 4 CANS of red pin stripe? One can, could probably do 4 coats on all 4 rims.

I actually did Black rims with a red pin stripe on my C5 Corvette. I did this to my stock Wagon wheels that I used at the track.

I did a test on a hub cap that I had and it should be about two cans of primer, one can per rim of black and 1 can of red for all four.....maybe two cans of clear if I decide to clear them.....so about $40 plus sand paper....not too bad .....I will probably be doing this in a couple of weeks, I will be out of town all next week...

Well I did my rims today ended up doing all black....tried the red lip and I would have to remove the wheel weights and get the tires rebalanced which would add to the cost.....also painted my calipers with the kit I had in my garage thought it came out pretty good..... so here are the pics of the end result

yup left the tires on to paint.....I just masked off the edges like so...I found that using box tape worked the best for sticking to the tires....

hope this paint job holds up does look pretty kewl. i used to be the QA labtech that tested the wheels for nissan enviromental tests and structural test for paint and wheel structures. hope you were careful when you sanded around the edges of the vents and such because if you lose the coverage there you are opening yourself to getting a condition called filiform from those areas.
