alright guys, im new here, but ive loved the z's for a while now. i currently drive an 86 mr2, but i am selling it. ive found the cars that i want. while i would love to have a turbo, ive found 2 na's that im looking at. one is a 5spd 88 one of the windows doesnt work, ac does though, 2 seater. they want 2200. looks to have k&n cone filter and some kind of exhaust. the other is a 89 2+2 auto ttops. really clean. looks to have all the options, power seat, radio controls on the wheel. wants 3200 for it. now i know my wife wants me to get something that has a back seat for the kids and something that she can drive, an auto, which is the best for me? is the auto a decent drive? also, do these cars take well to mods?

Welcome to NICO!I've heard the auto's can't take a lot of abuse, of course you must consider we are talking about 20 year old cars! personally I love the 5 speed and find the long roof of the 2+2 to be less than appealing, but if your lifestyle demands a back seat sounds like you have no choice, none of the 2+2's in the states came with turbo engines, so if you get a 2+2 unless it's been swapped your not gonna get a turbo, keep in mind also that the price gap between the Z31a dn the Z32 has gotten very thin! and the 2+2 Z32's seem to go for not much more than the Z31's you've noted and they are newer and therefore tend to have less miles

in any event be sure to know for sure when the last timing belt was installed and if unknown plan on $500-1000 for a new timing belt and cother parts and labor, figure $150-500 if you do the work yourself, price varies quite a bit between the models and what parts are due for replavement

How much are you selling the MR2 for. I would go for the stick, if you are considering an automatic buy a camry.
