The owner be4 me told me that the dealership does all of the oil changes for him and he told me that they uses regular but I want to switch to full syntetic or at least blend of regular/syntetic. Can I still switch even though it has been running on regular for the whole 53,000 miles? Or should I just keep using regular oil and which type (10w 40 or 10w 30)? Which oil brand do you guys suggest? I heard Vavoline and Mobil1 are great.
Do a search on this topic. Much has been written with a lot of strong opinions.

Visit carbibles and read about mixing oils. See quote below
"Gaskets and seals! With the makeup of synthetic oils being different from mineral oils, mineral-oil-soaked gaskets and seals have been known to leak when exposed to synthetic oils. Perhaps not that common an occurrence, but worth bearing in mind nevertheless. "
I have almost 43k on my G35. Personally I do not believe in synthetics. I change my own oil every 3k- 3.5 k myself so why spend so much money on an oil that may ruin seals and gaskets that will only be in the engine a short time? I generally use use 5w-30 Pennzoil or whatever I can find on sale. As long as the oil meets manufacture & SAE specs it is fine. Also keep in mind that any internal combustion engine produces contaminantes including condensation moisture etc. Not changing oil frequently enough you may see a white slimy sludge on your oil filler cap.
Just my opinion.
