I'm putting a 96 KA in my 240sx, but this engine has been sitting for almost 2 years, what kinda oil should i use first, something thick to clear it out, or just start with like 10w-30 right away, also should i use a good oil filter right away too, or a cheap fram one?

get a napa filter, and straight 30w non-synthetic oil for like 200mi, then go to what ever you normaly use. you may have to scrape out the pan for sludge, and also make sure the engine is warm when you change it.

Uh, I don't know about the NAPA filter and non-synthetic oil... I'd go start to Mobil one with a good 10-w40 with atleast a bosch or better filter... If you think that the engine is going to have enough problems with the oil then you should just go ahead and watch the oil, and check it to make sure it doesn't need changing, It might be a good idea to intall a oil pressure gauge when you install the motor, that you can keep an eye on everything while you're using it, it's just a few bucks that could save you big in the long run. Good Luck man~

OHC engines + straight weight oils in still kinda winter = bad

get a 10w-30 w/ high detergency like M1 drive clean valvoline Durablend etc.

A thin oil is ok for your first fill but in summer go to a 10w-40 Durablend or a full syn.

Fred..:)

PS: Do a search for MB223.1 ( or was it MB223.3)

the straight 30 is just to clean the engine out, cheap filter because you should change the oil and filter like 200miles after you put the new engine in, then go synthetic and put in a good filter, you can put 200 miles on the car and only have to let it warm up once if you do it all at once.

One thing you could do is to use sea foam, or some kind of cleaning agent before you actually start driving hard.Just a little suggestion.
