I've owned my '95 maxima since it was new, and have only ever used Mobil synthetic 10w30...and have only lived in Fl and Ca with it, where the ambient temps don't dip below 50 degrees. I recently moved to a state where the temps have been dipping into the 20's and 30's, so I decided to change to Mobil 5w30. Well now on cold morning start-ups I am hearing an engine clatter at start-up, and for about the first 5 mins of driving, until the engine temp warms up. It only does this on cold days....on days where it's in the 40's-50's, it doesn't do it.Do I need to switch to a thiner oil.....like a 0 weight? Thanks

I'm north of you and use 10W30 all year round. You should really only have to switch to the 5 weight oil if you are going to get temps of below 0*F.

I run Mobil1 synthetic 5w30 in my Max year round. I haven't had any problems with it and i dont expect any in the near future.
