Brand new journal bearing turbochargers will have some axial play (side to side, as you described). This is because the journal bearing requires oil to "float", if you will, and keep the shaft and bearing centered in the housing.

However, if there is enough wear to allow the blades to touch the compressor housing, that is considered too much.

Also, front to rear play is bad, as it indicates an excessively worn thrust bearing.

Hope that helps ya' out.

hahahaha k thx. Well that sucks. A guy i know who keeps wanting to race my KA-T with his late model ga16 in a b12 sentra bought a used k03 with shaftplay off of egay. We'll see how this is gonna turn out.

He keeps telling me he can beat me in 1st and 2nd if I spin my tires. Its getting old.

Off topic but in a car that light, wont the front end have traction trouble on the boost? And does anyone know the max PSI of a k03? I know they are really small.

i'm pretty sure a ga16 with that turbo isn't going to put out too much power... or get any traction. you're good to go.
