I'd be really surprised to learn Nissan changed materials or casting processes between the S-chassis years of KADE's. 1991's did have slightly higher lift cams though.
If I were KA-T'ing I wouldn't go without new rods/bearings/hone/rings and a thicker heavier duty head gasket to lower the compression a little. something just wouldn't sit right with me if someone told me i could run 250whp on a 130k+ mile old motor for more than a month without a rebuild.
If I were to do a KA project, it would definitely be N/A. there's a shop around here that makes artwork out of cam regrinds for hundreds less than aftermarket cams would cost... open up the head a good amount, add KA-E (higher compression) pistons, SR injectors & a little tuning, obviously header & 2.5" exhaust... that would be hardly butt-dyno decipherable in power difference as a stock SR with no lag and gobs of on-demand torque.
I vaguely recall a thread many moons ago regarding the Japanese and swapping out their SR's for KA's, something about how americans go ape**** over SR's cuz theyre the cool thing to do and how the Japanese go ape**** over KA's because they're a superior choice for some popular form of racing over there
