Which iPods work with the EX?

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

I have an older iPod (previous generation), and it works perfectly with my EX. I'm thinking of getting a Nano, or maybe an iPod touch, but am concerned about compatibility.

Anyone have experience on this?

I have a large capacity Ipod Classic which works great. Since it's out of sight most of the time I'm not concerned with it's appearance, which is ok mind you. I have about a dozen complete operas, and my complete classic library, as well as several other peoples', and it's less than a third full. I have to think that if you were into some other genre of music, you'd be hard pressed to fill it. Operas are long, and sometimes tedious).

I have a 4G Nano (new style). Works great through the in dash interface and cable.Downside: the newer iPods don't charge off of the cable. Old style ones will charge.Go figure...?

all the ipods should work,

but all the new 4-5 gen Nano, 2nd-3rd gen iTouch, iPhone 3G S use a different amount of power and won't charge. there are plenty of adapters for this tho. i think it was to change the current from a 12V to a 6V or something like that can't remember

The very first iPod's used Firewire to sync and charge. Firewire is 12 volt. The next generation of iPods introduced the dock connector and the specification for the dock connector allowed the iPod to be charged by both Firewire (12v) and USB (5 volt) each on a different pin. Apple supported both methods of charging for several years but, unfortunately, with the models released last year, Apple eliminated support for Firewire charging. The only exception was the iPod Classic models. The Classic model still supported both Firewire and USB charging.

The most recently released models still only support USB charging. I'm not sure if the very latest iPod Classic model still supports Firewire charging or not.

At any rate, virtually all car adapters and the vast majority of home boom boxes and A/V receiver that support iPod still only support Firewire (12v) charging. So... other than the iPod Classic, the other iPod or iPhone models will charge attached to the EX-35's cable.

As mentioned by JCL622 (why don't people at least use their real first name in their posts?!?!?!), there are adapters that convert the Firewire 12 volt output from the EX-35 to 5V and redirect it to the correct pin. This is one of the most popular:

That scosche(sp?) adapter is horrible. It does not secure to the ipod or iphones charging pins. It works, as in actually charging my iphone, however, it is loose and will unattach to the slightest touch. This is a big problem. How can you keeop it attached without having to hold it on there or, wedging the iphone lengthwise in the storage area where the wire is like I do. This sometimes will keep the wire in place by making the iphone wedged in there with the charging wire attached. However this may one day damage the iphone if it were to be jarred while in this position. How can they make this adapter so that it does not "click" onto the iphone and stay securely on it? The side of the adapter that attaches to the EX35's wire attaches with a nice click, why couldnt they make the other side attach to the iphone like that as well? Pretty poor design!

Did you ever find a better solution? Agre, the schosche is HORRIBLE. I don't understand why Nissan can't put out a cable that does 5V?

Can someone confirm if the iPod 3generation Touch works w/ the USB port in the EX35? Will I need the 'power converter - 12v > 6v' for it to work? thx

I have tried Iphone 3GS (should be the same thing as Touch 3G), Ipod Touch 1G, and Ipod Nano 2G. They all work perfectly in 2010EX, and all three do charge as well.

The 2010EX has a USB cord if I am not mistaken. USB charges the Ipods even the newer ones including the Iphone 3GS, as this is the way most of us attach it to our computers. The older EX's have a different wire, so we are stuck with the crappy, loose Scosche adapter

All iPods / iPhones will work, but you will need the adapter to enable the charging feature on the newest generation products.

Did some troubleshoot on the iPod Touch 3G w/ the USB port in the EX35. It turned out that songs that encoded in a foreign language (Japanese e.g) will not display correctly on the display... it'll show blank... and after a min or so the ipod will stop working w/ the system... I changed all song names / album names to english and it's been working so far.... I wonder if Infiniti can get me some language pack for the navi / stereo
