So I got the iPod interface cable from my dealer. The car was previously missing one when I bought it last week.

Great. If only I owned an iPod.

I borrowed my neighbor's iPod Nano, and found that it works as far as controlling the iPod from the factory stereo.

Ok, I like that feature. Now I need to get an iPod.

Here's my question. Do different iPods work differently with the interface? To rephrase my question, does my car stereo care whether I use a first generation iPod mini or a fourth generation iPod Nano or a third generation iPod Touch?

The owners manual says all of the aforementioned iPods will work. Does it matter which one I get if all I'm going to use it for is playing in my Rogue? Will the used iPod Mini I get for $40 on eBay work as well as the 3rd generation Touch that costs three times as much?

Thanks.

I don't think the ipod interface can tell the difference...and once you plug in the ipod to your stereo the ipod itself can ONLY be operated through the stereo. So having an ipod touch or a nano wouldn't make any difference once it is plugged in.

Nope. All that matters is which models are supported and which are not. Functionality is the same.

Now, does it really work with the first and second generation iPod classic, but the third, fourth, fifth or sixth?

I have the 2nd gen classic, and it works fine with the ipod interface.

I picked up a seven year old iPod classic - 30 gigs. Loaded my whole music collection.

Works as desired. The actual navigation of the radio is a bit convoluted.
