So I've finally decided to use my ipod interface since I've used up all my music box capacity and dislike the flash drive. I've never owned an ipod so I'm completely confused by the different models and all the generations. I only need about 20 or 30GB of storage, but if it has more, okay. I don't need any features other than playing music through my ipod port. I just need to know which models/generations will connect flawlessly to my 2009 G37 using the cable supplied by Infiniti. Thanks!

Yo Tim!

I'm assuming the cable supplied by Infiniti is the original Apple connector. You can do one of two things:

1) purchase a converter from Apple
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD823 ... r?fnode=72
- This is the 30-pin to lightning converter I have seen work in a Murano for its interface, so this should work fine for any lightning Apple device. That way you have the option to purchase one new as the Lightning connector is all Apple offers for new iPods.

2) look for a used iPod on ebay that uses the traditional 30-pin connector.

My recommendation for any iPod is a Nano. I like the size of it and the flash memory. The only problem is with older ones you cannot get much more than 8GB of storage. I believe the newer ones that utilize the lightning connector can go up to 32GB.

My other question for you is this - do you have the technology package in your G (navigation?) If so, it has streaming bluetooth audio, and you can get the latest iPod nano and stream everything over bluetooth, but I'm not sure that you can utilize the onscreen interface that way. Another option, though.

I do have nav, but I think since it's an '09 model it was made one year sooner than they enabled bluetooth for anything except the cell phone connection. Anyway, I really appreciate the clear outline of my options. I'll probably take option 1 so I can get enough memory to never have to worry about a future upgrade. Sucks that the little adapter is $30, but I suppose when factoring the cost of the Nano, coming in around $200 isn't bad for more than doubling my Music Box capacity.

Thanks for the great info!

My initial thought was to get the classic until I heard that some folks experience an annoying delay when skipping tracks. It was explained as a hard drive vs. Flash issue. I definitely like the capacity the classic offers, but it's more important to me for my hardware to work as seamlessly and close to OEM performance as possible. If it comes down to capacity or performance, I will choose performance. Still haven't made a final decision tho..

Made a decision.. Went with the Nano, ordered it over the weekend. Thanks for the feedback, it was all helpful. Nano gave me everything I needed - ample capacity, seamless performance and integration, and the lowest possible price for a new iDevice compatible with the OEM interface.

I have a 120gb classic and it never leaves my car except to refresh the library. I don't think it lags much honestly. The only hassle is scrolling through the artists if you have a large library. So I updated the genre of all of my artists to he first letter of the band name. Now I just scroll through genre to find the first letter and go from there.

If you go with a Bluetooth capable iPod with the lightning connector, then tune2air is a wonderful device. It connects to the 30 pin adapter, then sinks up perfectly to the iPod via Bluetooth. I have one in a 2008 g37 and it works flawlessly. $98 shipped on amazon.

I have a old-assed 2Gb model that works fine. I don't have that much music on it so the size is OK

I sold my 2gb nano a month prior to buying my G37. Now I wish I kept it. This is the one thing I failed to check on the car prior to buying it at the end of last week. I have an android phone, and have read on the forums about an adapter you can buy off amazon that enables bluetooth so all the music on my phone can play seamlessly.

Because I have a larger storage capacity on my phone (64gb plus an SD card) wouldn't that be a better option over nano?

With the bluetooth adapter you can use Pandora and other streaming media as well. That would be my direction, too.
