Which intake do you think has the best sound? And what can you do to make it better?

Nice one. But honestly. what is the best intake out there with the best sound, be it a cold air or a short ram.

Short Ram.

I have had an AEM in my 02 3.5 Altima, nice growl but too low to the ground. Almost sucked in water Apr 04, very scary.A good short ram that growls like an angry pussycat in the JWT pop charger. Nice increase between 5 and 6 grand as well, installed mine a month ago, no turning back.

I never noticed a difference in sound; when my intakes on any of my cars were installed, I should assume you would make your choice of intake on the quality of it, not how it sounds.

Short ram will sound louder...get the z-tube or equivalent to go with the JWT.

I have to agree with everyone about the JWT popcharger and Z tube combo. After I installed it, I noticed the sweet suction noise kick in around 2200-2500 rpm. It can only be described as a chorus of Angels under my hood singing a glorious hymn just for me. :D

kinda different question about the same topic, being as I'm in the looking stage. I read about the water sucking being maybe too low with the longer ones in the rain but if you guys had to rate performance on the short rams vs. the longer cold air intakes which type gets you more performance gain ?

The only recommendation I've had so far is going with the brand name Ingen

simple answer... Hydrolock = (P.S. Ive done it... it sucks) if your going CAI buy one with a bypass i believe the Nismo and Ingen both come with one, all it is a shortcut for air to enter incase your filter is submerged into water so your CAI doesnt turn in to basically a straw due to the fact that water does not compress and **** will break... trust me. Another thing some people will argue that Hydrolocking is very extremely rare and you have to completely submerge a filter for it to happen, and i totally disagree due to the fact that ive done it, if you hit a deep enough puddle fast enough it will force water through your filter how much water depends on your luck at the time.

So basically long is bad unless you have a bypass, got it, but then is it better or worse performance wise to have the longer with all things being equal and no hydro lock happening ?

They both give a good performance gain, just at different ranges. I personally feel more power down low with a SRI and more up top with a CAI, so its just more of user opinion, i know most of us here went with a Z-Tube/Pop Charger cause its not uber expensive, no risk of water, and has a nice gain. So if you want a CAI or SRI its up to you my friend

Good choice, because it's a short ram expect a faster throttle reponse at the 4-6grand range, add the spacer soon after and you'll be blowing past virtually any v6 out there. And to add to the comment about the "singing" of the Pop Charger, very true you'll love the hssssss. Here's a clip of me and my buddy messing around Saturday. Note the acceleration. No audio though

Just a side note whizz, why does everyone use zaino? I was told at Porsche they strongly recommend zymoil for all porsches, and it worked woners for my boxster. Pardon my ignorance, but If there's a difference I'll check it out, just curious..

yup definitely the motordyne, the skunk 2 is too thick to put your cover/future strut back on, no difference in output anyways.

Speaking of plenum spacers...when mine comes in the mail this week, will the instructions to install it be included, or will I have to print off the set I have on my computer?

It's super easy...just don't pinch the rubber gasket by the oil fill in the front when your putting the intake back together.

Glad to hear you like it. My spacer is actually sitting in the garage waiting to be installed, but unfortuantly moving to our new place has taken up most of my time (actually all of it). Let us know how the install goes and how it sounds after, it might make my unpacking speed go a bit faster.

Just Installed mine today. Sound Great. By the way Should the SSSSSSSSS sound be constant or only when slightly pushing the throttle?
