I am rebuilding an SR20DET red top and I want to know what head gasket I should use. I have seen the Cometic gasket in different thicknesses, but I am not sure which one would be best for my application. The motor is a stock short block with a ported head, Brian Crower stage 3 cams, Brian Crower springs and retainers, and Greddy rocker arm stoppers. I plan to boost about 15psi with the stock turbo until I upgrade to either the stock S14 turbo or the GT3071R. Any help on which head gasket would be greatly appreciated.

I currently autocross my 1990 240SX hatch in SM.

If price is an issue then Cosworth. If not, go with like an Apexi. The Cometic head gaskets get a lot of bad rep for some reason.

Also keep in mind that going too thick has a tendency to slightly change cam timing due to the added space between the black and head with the same lenght timing chain.

Apexi or Power Enterprise as a 1.5 mil Done.

Although you may need to have the head decked so depedning on how much is shaved off depends on the thickness of the head

It is always a good practice to have your head and block decked to ensure a good seal. Most of the people who have a bad experience with Cometic fail to do this. Ask Jeff at 240sxmotoring.com, he hasn't had any problems with Cometic last I spoke with him.

I have been using a Cometic for about 2 years. I have also pulled the head off multiple times(at least 3) and it is still going strong. Just make sure you have everything decked and shiney!

Ok, seems like there is a variety of opinions. I will look at the different manufactures that have been recommended. I will be upgrading to ARP studs also and I found there are two different part numbers. When I emailed ARP about the difference all I got back was the following.102-4701 is M11, ARP2000 material.202-4303 is M12, 8740 material. Which do you use and is there any particular reason why?

I wanted a cosworth. I got an apexi cause they were on backorder with no eta.

15 pounds is pushing it on the t25.

More research required.

Cause they suck balls. SOME will seal fully but not all of them. There is a pic floating around that shows how bad they seal, for only like $30 more you can get a cosworth and they did a lot better.
