I have a question.. hereI was going to run a Megan 3" exhaust ... Is that a good system to run or not.

I want the Can style Muffler... sound doesn't bother me...

My other option is To make my own exhaust out of 3" pipe I can find a place around here to do the work for alot less than buying a exhaust...

What is the common thought on this situation... Should I buy the megan or just make my own..

I Just think as long as i keep to the same bends as a Greddy system or something I shouldnt have to worrie about my exhaust sucking LOL. If i get it made my self..

I just dont get 500$ for a brand name setup... its just SS pipe what is so SUPER about it that makes it worth that much (Other than SHaving some LBS) but i have a street car not a Race car LOL

an exhaust is an exhaust.unless you have crappy bends, its hard to mess up.just go for the megans or the ssac

Thats the same thought I had... I know a guy with some contacts So i might be able to just have one made... for about 150$ or less... but if i can buy a megan Ebay one for around 250$ ill just go with it since it comes with everything to bolt it up ...

In reality, a 2.5" exhaust is enough for under 300RWHP. I had a stock downpipe on my Skyline which was 2.25 and made 290 to the wheels before I really started to upgrade stuff and that was a RB20.

Buy some straights and a few J-bends from http://www.summitracing.com and coat it with high temp paint. Use mild steal, it's cheap and resilient. Plus you can save enough money to actually buy a welder and do it yourself. Once you learn to weld man, you realize all the stuff you can simply make yourself.

My first weekend with a welder, if it was metal and in my garage, I welded it together...lol.

SO yeah, go the DIY route. It's a great feeling to say, "yeah, I know your exhaust looks nice and sounds pretty good, But I fabricated mine myself for a fraction of the cost...wanna race".

2.5" exhaust on a 300whp 2.4L KA is crazy talk.... if you were to make 300whp with 2.5" exhaust, moving up to a 3" downpipe, and 3" exhaust would be a huge gain.

When I had the S14, I preferred the Greddy exhausts. Mainly because it was much quieter. Mine was second hand and the previous owner had cut out the pre-silencer and welded in a straight pipe in it's place. With no Cat and the exhaust setup this way, it was still reasonably quiet. A little louder than I actually wanted, but considering there was no presilencer, I was impressed with it's noise level. Both this Greddy exhaust and the 2 I used before it were pretty quiet and once the mufflers were packed in, they remained quiet with only a slight increase from new. On the other hand, some aftermarket mufflers I've used and seen have blown out packing over time and eventually would become obnoxiously loud.

Go big or go home.

Making your own exhaust or turbo setup is funner and a lot more cost-effective if you ever wanna sell your car down the road. Keep that in mind too.

Make it yourself. Buy a bunch of U or J bends and cut them to length and weld.

My guess would be hi temp paint for headers like the stuff you can get at jegs, but thats just my guess..

Take a look at this :

http://www.summitracing.com ........thanks WDRacing for the website.

Part # SUM-640030

Spec's :

spacer SUM-640030

$11.95

Brand: SummitProduct Line: Summit Exhaust TubingOutside Diameter (in): 3.000 in.Tubing Material: SteelTubing Gauge: 15-gaugeTubing Length (ft): 4 ft.Tubing Finish: Aluminized

I'm going to buy this piping for my custom 3inch turboback exhaust and buy a Apexi N1 muffler off E-bay and there you go.......... ill spend no more then like $200.00 and thats turbo back, not catback, and i'm going to use flat black high temp paint ( $3.50 a can ) to paint the piping on the exhaust and ill have a name brand looking exhaust and it will be turbo back, not catback for 1/2 the price..............

P.S. i've seen the namebrand exhaust's ( Mostly the Apexi N1 ) rust in less then a year.......... i' had my old custom N/A exhaust with that same piping for 2 years and no rust.

I just Love DIY stuff.............

Just look at my SIG pic....... i painted my 300zx wheels with the same paint i'm going to use on the exhaust ( except i used the high gloss ) and look how nice they turned out.

I got a no name ebay (A1R I think) and I love it, the quality is great, and it has a resonator. Same bends and style as N1 but a lot cheaper. Plus it features every stock hanger location, something my previous exhaust couldn't even claim. Had it on in 15 min. Cost me 235 to my door.

EDIT: Almost identical to this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...QrdZ1

That exhaust system has a baffle/resonator with the kit and it's welded in place so it isn't removeable. It will still flow well from the looks of it, but it will be quiter. Which isn't always a bad thing. My RS*R is wicked loud...It's the straightest exhaust on the market so it flows awsome, but it's loud. Bothersome at 3AM or on any drive with length involved.

But it will flow great right? Im just dont want any restriction... if it has a non noticable one thats ok i guess... only problem is I have to pick, Open Wastegate or Recirculating... any advice on this ?

I'll try, but my car is not at my house, it is sitting in a parking lot on base with a rod through the block. I'll snap some if I'm ever over that way.

#3 unassed itself and punched a hole in the block. I've really always wanted to do that, just not then.

Believe me you want a resonator. It makes all the difference in whether or not you are willing to put up with your big exhaust. Hell, I would install two if I could. I almost bought a resonated test pipe so I could, but it was about twice the price. A resonator will not cause you a noticeable restriction. It is just smart to have one. Now if you were full race, then fine, run without it. But like WD said, on any sort of long drive you will shoot yourself for not getting one.

There is the option of using a silencer. My RS*R came with one, I just always forget to use it. You can also buy various silencers from http://www.summitracing.com that just slip in the tail pipe. So you get the best of both worlds.

BTW, :off topic: WD I have shown all of my friends your sig, and most of them love it, the rest think it is cruel. But no, I agree the silencer is a solution, but if you spend the money you don't want to have to use it to make the exhaust palletable.

Yeah, there are two kinds of people. The ones who laugh at Free Cat and those who hate it. I'm an animal lover, but I almost pissed myself when I first saw that.

Me too, my dog is next to me snorting, but they may be a little too up-tight. Also, the line seems to be drawn from men to women.
